Now the British task is to take back the city of Caen from considerable German defenders.  I'll post a "blinking" picture so you can see the underlaying terrain:

I'm thinking that the British 6th Abn Div needs to be relieved before they get overrun or decimated by the 12th SS
Panzer Div.  The 51st Highland Div and the 3rd Div ( just to the West of the 6th Abn Div ) seem to be relatively
unemployed and so I'm thinking of rushing them across the river and take on the task(s) that the 6th Abn Div is
undertaking now.  I'll think of something for the 6th Abn Div to do if they survive until the 51st Highland and 3rd
Div get there:

The Allies are going to get the 2nd Armoured and 9th Inf Divisions in turn 8 and they can take up some of the
slack in the front lines where units are getting spread out and stretched thin:

Here's the reinforcements that the Germans got this turn.  Notice that the greatest majority of it shipped in by rail.  At least two full divisions one of which was Panzer armour.  And it arrived near Caen to the SouthWest and [ the panzer division ] to the SouthEast.  Just exactly what the Allies didn't need.  If I was playing this again I think I would bomb the rail lines near where these reinforcements arrive on-map so they would at least be delayed from being useful.

Hey, it finally occured to me that these DD tanks can cross the river since they are amphibious.  At the very least it might force the German to defend along the river:

Interesting. I thought once the DD tanks were ashore they became just regular tanks and lost their DD-ness. If they hadn't then wouldn't the Arnhem campaign have been easier?

That would sound correct. I don't really know since I wasn't there. All I know is in this game those particular units are still amphibious and can still cross rivers etc. Maybe this is a flaw in the scenario? Good catch.

As long as the tanks kept their skirts on, they could perform DD operations. Here's a DD tank with skirt near Ouistreham:

I was limited by the unit type icon, not the equipment contained within, so the choice was to make them amphibious or not. Guess I could have made them regular armored icons, but then everyone would be asking "where are the DD tanks"?

Whoa, thanks for the info Jim.  And the picture is magnificant.  German, is my guess, looking at the helmets.  Appologies for the jab at the scenario.  It's still one of my favorites, just after Fire in the East 5.0, (which I've never won at ).

Larry there is this new feature for TOAW III.
SitRep Log: This creates a text file in the Saves directory that contains news strings, and detailed combat results reports. If playing a PBEM turn, then the news strings, and only the last two lines of the combat reports and their locations are displayed. When using this option, players should make a habit of deleting their old logs on a regular basis to save hard drive space.

Could you post some of this info so we can see it ?

thanks

Why sure. You bet. I did some attacks in Overlord '44 and captured the sitrep_log.txt file and here's the contents:
-------------------------- snip ----------------------------------------
Allied Turn 7 Battle at 24,25
Allied approximate equipment and personnel losses - 9%
German approximate equipment and personnel losses - 28%

Allied Turn 7 Battle at 46,34
Allied approximate equipment and personnel losses - 11%
German approximate equipment and personnel losses - 14%

Allied Turn 7 Battle at 32,26
Allied approximate equipment and personnel losses - 18%
German approximate equipment and personnel losses - 30%

Allied Turn 7 Battle at 34,25
Allied approximate equipment and personnel losses - 15%
German approximate equipment and personnel losses - 26%

Allied Turn 7 Battle at 23,31
Allied approximate equipment and personnel losses - 13%
German approximate equipment and personnel losses - 30%
-------------------------- snip ----------------------------------------

how's that?

Yes, it's a copy of the combat results window for non PBEM games.
