So I noticed that every unit has an attack strength and defense strength. Also every unit has an anti personnel and anto armor ratings. How are these different stats calculated and how do they influence combat? Basically, I am confused over the attack and defense strength. I know they are an average of prof, readiness, morale, but how does it go into comnbat calculations? Thanks in advacne.

This would take PAGES to answer well. Your best bet is to start by reading the Appendices of the manual for notes on combat.

That I did.  Read the appendices on combat but I'm still confused how strengths for attack and defense come into play and what does anti armor and anti personnel influence.

Now that's a rather complex issue, armor and anti-armor ratings were calculated back in TOAW based on published sources and reflect typical penetrations and frontal armor mostly (there are variations, 90% of the values are correct from the numbers I made over the years). There's also the issue of how many shots can a piece of equipment take and wether visibility will give a hit, and then there's proficiency, supply, etc.

I am sorry not to have time to go into details, but I will if no one elses steps forward,

Ok....So the anti P and anti A stats are for the round by round combat calculations...Are the attack strengths and defense strengths influenced by those numbers at all?  So it is possible then that a unit with say 20 Attack but will really crappy anti A can take on a similar unit with Defense of 10 but with really high anti A if both units are Armor?

It sure can try, with the new modification that caters for flank or rear or top hits it may knock it off, but my recommendation will still be not to take Tigers with Jeeps. [:-] [:D]

Overall it's quite complex, since units will include bits of everything so some weapon is likely to be able to shoot something everytime.

The "attack" and "defence" numbers on the unit icon are only for the player's benefit. They are derived directly from the total AP and defence strengths of the unit's equipment, modified by a formula of unit proficiency, supply and readiness.

What matters is the composition of the units. The appearance of the icon only gives a general summary.
