A little piece of advice...

Hello all!
I just recently found out of this wonderful game, and two days ago I got around to download it. As my first game, I choosed to play the Russians in 1944. Being new to the game and quite new to strategy games, I choosed to not do anything revolutionary. I also decided to not fiddle with industries and such, svaing it for a later game. I launched an offenisve against Army Group Center, with the objectives of taking Warzaw and Krakow. The offensive, unfortunatly, slowed down to a halt during the late autumn, but thanks to the guys fighting out there, the 1st Ukrain. Front managed to at least snatch Krakow.
Then I attacked again, on Christmas Eve, along the whole front. In the north, things went well. A limited offensive during the summer had given me good positions and all I needed to do was to roll up the German line. The same thing was for the south front, where I launched a general offensive towards Belgrade, but I didn't care much about that quite sleepy part of the front.
In the center, the attack proceeded well, at least in the beginning. Eventually, I was quite stopped at Warzaw, and when I finally captured the town it was about too late. My new lines were at the border of Germany, all I had to do now was to attack and surely the Wehrmacht would break down. But, as mentioned, I was to late. My forces crossed Oder and captured Prague during the last turn of the game (I hadn't noticed the time limit) and so it ended as a draw.
Now, when I'm finished boring you with my stories;-) I want some help. Frankly, how do I play the Russians good. Proven strategies, for example. Shall I pay any importance to Finland? This time I didn't...And, what does it mean when a German front shatters. The West Front did? How do I make this happen?
Thanks in advance for every answer...
