Widescreen support?

My LCD has a wide screen with native resolution 2560x1600. (It's a huge 30-inch Dell 3007.) Unfortunately, CoTA looks horizontally stretched on it. The 1 km "squares" are rectangles for me, and circles are ovals. Is there any workaround?

In the readme it shows how to create a shortcut that sets the resolution to what you want.
There is a max limit I believe, but dont have the code with me at the moment to check.

You should also be able to set your LCD to 1:1 aspect ratio, most LCDs support multiple aspect ratios for interpolation.

You guys rock! Changing the parameters in the shortcut to 1280x800 worked perfectly. That's one of the two native resolutions of my monitor, so I'm happy to play there. And what's more, the game also runs in 1920x1200! Woot!
When I tried to run at 2560x1600, I did get an error message saying that CoTA won't run at that high a resolution. But it apparently can run as high as 1920x1200. It looks great in both that resolution and in 1280x800; I'll have to experiment to see which I prefer.
Sorry I missed this in the readme. I did glance at the readme but I was too eager to play.

Er, somewhat off-topic: is there any similar resolution option for War in the Pacific? That still looks squashed when I play it...

Grotius,
We will be happy to extend the screen size supported once you supply us with two high quality monitors capable of running at 2560 x 1600 without the need of a microscope to see it. Isn't that right Paul? [;)]

Wellll, my 30-inch Dell 3007 does make 2560x1600 quite visible without said microscope.

But, um, I'll have to get back to you about "supplying" you with said monitor. Don't hold your breath!
Instead, you'll have to settle for my everlasting gratitude for making such a terrific wargame -- one that looks fantastic in 1920x1200 with a 30-inch screen. I feel like I'm looking at a life-sized planning map.

<G> Grotius, Paul and I had our hopes up there for a while. [;)]
We'll keep it in mind for BFTB. Enjoy.[:)]

Afraid you're stuck with 1024x768 with WitP. You have a couple of choices, and neither are great imho. Either run it in windowed mode or run it while keeping the aspect ratio (keeping it 1:1 is too small even on my 20" widescreen dell).

my widescreen CUTS off half of the game screen and the radio is stretched everywhere else with a black bar at the farthest end. I've read the readme and tried the resolution change in the manual and still NO luck!
What to do? i want 1280 x 768 but get nada so far-----

My widescreen support is nonexistant! Half the "radio" is cut off and on one side is a black bar! I've tried loading the game and it, too, appears to be cut off. . . . I'd like 1280x768 resolution for these old eyes but so far I've got zero game here.
Moreover, I've tried the "copy shortcut and add line" instructions with unacceptable results. Both the manual and the readme specify similar suggestions but with minor divergences in text and line spacings----- But, neither work for me. ?????
Any ideas? Why doesn't the game default to the DESKTOP resolution with changes available from INSIDE the game with an OPTIONS page if the player desires changes? ---If the game defaulted to the desktop setting of the computer in-use then, at least, it WOULD run. . .

CotA looks great at 1680x1050 on my widescreen 20 inch lcd
the target field in the shortcut (for me) is:
"E:\Matrix Games\Conquest Of The Aegean\COTA.exe" -resolution 1680x1050
the shortcut mod is as documented in the CotA manual, look at page 7 of the reference manual
btw, its the same back in HttR

Got it, doh! lol. I pulled my HttR manual out and voila! Too much videogame bliss makes my eyes cross, I guess.
Thx!
