When my opponent and I flip turns back to each other we get the 'You may be using different versions' warning. We both made sure we had the same version: 3.0.0.14, then started a new scenario and slipped a turn and still got that warning. When I flip turns between myself using PBEM I only get the pirated version warning, and *not* the 'You may be using different versions' warning...

I know this is a terrible report, but if anyone else has the problem, maybe they can back me up.

I have now started a PBEM bout with another, and do not get that message, so it is intermitent, and those are the worst problems, argh. I once had a car that wouldn't start, but it was only once in a while, and twice I had it towed to the mechanics and the damn things started for them. But, anyways, good luck with this bug, and thanks again for getting to all these bugs quickly.

For some reason, I had the version check in slightly the wrong place. It was checking that you and your opponent had started it with the name opart 3.exe. Because there was a patch out, there's a fair chance that one of you had given it a different name.

It will be fixed in a future patch.

You will get this message if you try to play a PBEM game by yourself. You must have two distinct copies of TOAW III to PBEM. If you want to solo hotseat, choose the hotseat mode of play. The variable turn initiative was removed from hotseat, for the purpose of emulating PBEM in a solo environment, whether for testing purposes, or just for entertainment.

I guess I should have asked...are you playing against someone else, or is this a solo game?

It is a PBEM with another person. I have had no others problem whatsoever with the game and I am using the beta patch.

Also, please send me a PBEM turn of Arracourt 44. Simply start it, move a unit a couple of hexes, and email it to me. Use the password of "test". Thanks again.

OK I think I figured out what went wrong, he had sent me back my turn instead of his, I had thought it was some kind of anti-piracy measure blocking his turn, but then you said I would get the message if I was playing against myself on my machine. I then asked if he sent the wrong file and he sent another file that opened and did not give me a pirated copy message.

Sorry for the false alarm, looks like everything is on the up and up, just an honest mistake.

This might be a good time to go over with your opponent a suitable file naming convention, to avoid, or minimize, future mix-ups.

What I've settled on, over the course of the years, is to keep my incoming games in my download folder, navigate to there, through the Windows browse feature that TOAW utilizes, and load from there. Then, when I save a file, it is named in the following general format:
Scenario name - P1 name v P2 name - Side to be played Turn to be played.PBL

For example, if I'm the North Koreans playing you in Korea 50-51, finishing turn 3, sending to you, I would name it:
Korea 50-51-JAMvFoo-UNTurn3.PBL

If I'm playing the UN against you, in the same scenario, and I'm finishing turn 3, sending to you, I would name it:
Korea 50-51-FoovJAM-NKTurn4.PBL
