What if the Manual was right (about scale)?

The WITP manual says the map is scaled in nautical miles.
The ships of WITP pretend the map is scaled in nautical miles. Speeds are in knots. Ranges are in nautical miles. We rationalize this, BUT IF we did it the other way
we would have more on the map!
About 15 % more.
The map is 148 hexes square - Cobra COUNTED them! And Andrew published this already - I just asked is that right? Seems odd - one would expect 144. But it is 148. OK - at 60 statute miles per hex that is 8880 statute miles on a side. This is almost exactly the distance from Kerachi to Oahu - 8834 measured on a globe. The diagonal distance (corner to corner) of our map should be 12,558 statute miles.
IF we did the hexes as the book say, we would have about 15% MORE on the map. That is, 15% more on each side - corresponding to 32.25% MORE area on the map.
FYI.
Note this is a vast map area. It is MOST of the way around the globe from Aden to Panama - it is SHORTER NOT to go this distance on the map!
Go "backwards" and you have significantly less distance to move! No easy way to make this map this big without problems somewhere.
