Screen Resolution Problem

I have a small problem. Nothing I do effects the screen resolution of the game. It opens the same size every time. I'm running XP, ATI 9800xt, latish drivers (stable for all other games). I'd like to use all of my 1280 by 1024 screen (really I'd like to use both of my screens). Do I need to set compatibility in the exe properties?

At a loss.

If you are running the game from the Harpoon3: ANW launcher program, try looking at the different tabs at the top.

Select the ".opt-File" tab.

Check to see if the "RunInWindow.Opt" is enabled or disabled.

If it is enabled, select it and then hit the Disable button.

Ok, the thing is that if you enable the RunInWindow tab then Harpoon 3 ANW will only run at a resolution setting that is one step below your windows resolution. This is because the actual H3 game is displayed at the requested resolution with the window-frame added on the outside of that (this is a necessary leftover from the DOS-to-windows compatibility conversion). To solve this problems there are two options you can use:

1. Use the H3 Configuration tool to disable the RunInWindow.opt file and run ANW in full screen mode
2. Change your windows resolution to 1152x864 which will allow you to play ANW at 1024x768 resolution which will give you the best screen use while still allowing you to use different programs in the background (browser, chat programs, etc...)

Cheers,
JP

Edit: fixed wording so it can't be misunderstood

JP and Hermanhum,

Thanks for the info. I thought I might be losing my mind. Been a long week.

JP, any chance of seeing some kind of tweak to allow multiscreen setups to work? Be sweet to have maps and info platered over my two screens.

Thanks Again!

Unfortunately making multiscreen setups work with ANW would be far more than a tweak. However, we'll keep it in mind when we start working on a new GUI.

Cheers,
JP

JP,

Thanks for the info. I should have put tweak in quotes. I think more folks are going to multi-screen and wargames are one of those items that can always expand to meet the viewing area.

Thanks.

Can you be a bit more specific?

I have had some problems with Alt+Tab, too. In some instances, I have experienced CTD because I did it very quickly. I find that if I hold it Alt+Tab for just a second until the second program is 'fully estabilished', it is okay.

What do you mean by "Crash after the quotes"?

I know I just upsated directX and haven't touched the database. I'll check on the video drivers.

The ALT-TAB problem happens in full screen. When I go back to the game, the screen is blank and the mouse leaves tracks.

The CTD occurs when the windowed quotes you see when the game is loading start to go away. The game abruptly disappears.

Oh, I'd never do that.  I keep all three (!!) of my versions of separate drives.  Thanks for your help.

Another piece of info:  In full screen, I can uncover a button on minimized screen with a mouse "track", click on it and the whole screen refreshes.  Running windowed still fails.

It's been a decade since I used the command prompt.  What is the command for Change drive -cd something, right?  Also should I set my desktop res at 1152x864 before I go into DOS prompt?

Thanks.
