Questions... replacements

Ok, getting in to and learning the game.
Replacements. When do the replacements actually show up in the units. Start of the turn?
How many replacements show up?
Also, does the supply level of the unit effect the replacements, if so, how?
How does the time scale of the game effect the replacements? Don't they have to travel to the units to join them?
Thanks!

I'm liking the game a lot but the learning curve is steep for a newbie like me.

replacements arrive as per the reinforcements arrival table and on the hex stated. sometimes you'll have to rail them to the front, eg FitE, othertimes they arrive close to the area of operations
in some scenarios some reinforcements do not arrive if their target hex is captured and in many scenarios reinforcements are linked to ceratin events, ed fall of a city capture of a port etc

I'm asking about replacements not reinforcements. [:)]
Reinforcements I think I understand.
Thanks for the help, any info on replacements?

if you get any replacements then the computer calculates them automatically...might have to need unit to be on a rail/road hex and definitely in supply

Yeah.
How many replacements show up?
There is a replacement rate for each type of equipment which is added to the stockpile each turn. The computer goes through various calculations to determine how much then gets doled out to units.
Also, does the supply level of the unit effect the replacements, if so, how?
Units must be in supply but otherwise it doesn't matter.
How does the time scale of the game effect the replacements? Don't they have to travel to the units to join them?
This is abstracted, and unaffected by time scale.

There's this
exhaustive article written by General Staff over at TDG, dealing precisely with replacements. Worth the reading, definitely.

Did I really write this? I must have been in college studying for some math exam.
Not for the faint-hearted and this was a study of a stinging defeat of mine. I'd suggest players get the basics of movement and combat (not to mention supply, another tough one) before looking under the hood at this one.

Thanks for the replies. So, it seems there is not a good or easy way to know what it going to happen "in game" with replacements. Hmmm, it seems hard to judge when they will be coming for any said unit.
Doesn't this make it a little hard to know what is going on in general?

Actually, it makes it easy to know what is going on, in general. It will, however, make hard to know what is going on, specifically...[;)]

I guess I was just looking for an easy way to be able to understand and tell in game when I can expect a beaten down unit to come back up to strength. This is just so I can guess when I will be able to use the unit again. Doesn't this seem like something you need to know? Or, maybe I am confused?

Sorry...there isn't an easy way to know with any specificity. The division of the replacements among units is somewhat randomized, and given a dearth of equipment in the in hand pool, it can take quite a while, especially as the battle continues to make changes in the unit call outs over the course of the game. Estimating your re-supply rate is much easier, something that you generally have more control over, and often accomplishes much the same thing in terms of actual battlefield performance.
To really find out more about the specifics of any particular scenario, you would have to dive under the hood, and load the game into the scenario editor, to review the replacement priorities set for the entire OOB, and make some guesstimates based on the specifics of your game's attrition rates, and the total number of replacements going into the pool. Not recommended for beginners...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but could one not get a pretty good idea by doint the following:
1. Chooose a unit of the kind you are interested in that is in supply on a road and not llikely to be in combat.
2. Look at its composition.(perhaps printing out the screen if yo have a bad memory)
3.Press the next move button.
4. Look at the unit composition again. Presto: the diference between the old and the new is equal to the replacements that this unit is likely to get. (possible variations due to randomness and demands of other units)[8D]
No?

Like a lot in TOAW there is no easy way or free lunch. If you have the time and interest by all means read the article. But you have been warned. It's a lot of math but if you can digest it you will reach enlightenment.
It took me a lot of time and patience to figure out what was going 'wrong'. Apart from playing the wrong opponent that is. [;)]

You'd have to end the
turn, not the combat round. Further, this information would only tell you about that specific unit, since the amount of replacements received depends on each unit's need, and its replacement's priority (set in the editor, invisible in the game).
You can get some useful information on replacements by comparing the rate, on hand and assigned columns for key items of equipment in the replacement editor. For example, if your on-hand replacements for an item are more than about five times the replacement rate, then you probably have no shortage of equipment of that type.

Ok question here. The replacements screen tell you how many Replacements are "On Hand" but it doesn't tell you how many Replacements are needed.
Is there anyway to figure this out.
This way you could tell how your needs are being met or not.
Thanks.

It seems you have an inquiring mind. Try the article. Then PM or E-Mail me with any Qs. I can usually machete my way through a jungle if I want to. You probably won't enjoy the article but it
will help you.

I did scan through the article but I'll hunker down and really read through it. Then we'll see. Thanks for the help.
