Leaders Die Pretty Often

Combat Report 101

Date 7/13/41 Clear

Soviet air forces
attacked with 48 fighters and 56 bombers

37 Axis fighters intercepted

Soviet losses were 2 fighters and 19 bombers

The target was hit by 1 tons of bombs
0 aircraft were destroyed on the ground

Not a very remarkable report, except that
this attack killed Runstedt!

I can see the report to Berlin:

"4 250kg bombs landed within 50 feet of
General Rundstedt's command tent. Most of
the staff were killed, along with the General"

Is the ability to kill leaders by airstrike
something Matrix added? I don't remember
anything like this happening when I played WiR
so many years ago. . .

Also, can leaders die in ground combat?

Don't get me wrong, I love the feature, if I
sound as if I don't, that is due to the shock of losing such a valuable leader so early.

Guess we should have triangulated the position of that partisan radio a little faster - maybe we could
have kept them from guiding in that airstrike.

Or perhaps we should look into a political rival sending detailed info to the Soviets to
eliminate Rundstedt, there was a huge shockwave sent running through the halls of OKH when I shookup the command of the Eastern Front just as Operation Barbarossa was going to begin. . .

Ok, I typed the above into Notepad while playing the game. The very next turn one of my airstrikes (38 Ju-88's, no interceptors) killed Tyulenev. No great loss to the Russians (rating 4 now that I
check), but this is beginning to worry me.

Has anyone else noticed a lot of leaders dying off?

Or perhaps we have a double agent on our hands?
Hmmm. . .

No, I haven't seen anything bad. As I remember, this "feature" has been there all along. Gary has this in PacWar too (task force and base commanders can be killed).

I only saw it once before, and it was in the unofficial 1.13x release. Same thing as yours happened - I was the Soviets and bombed AG South to take out some Ju52s. Only a very small amount of bombs hit the target but poof there went Rundstedt. I have never seen it before or after. I even forced the surrender of Guderian's HQ later in the game and he got away.

Hehe....bad luck John !
This already happened in the original game, and I have changed nothing to this feature.

You simply had very bad luck John !
This can happen, but the chance is 0.3 % !
It is not a new feature. It's always been present in the game.
