How does TOAW III compare to Korsun Pocket?

I have Korsun Pocket, and I don't really care for the UI in it. I also have TOAW I from when it was originally released, but I have completely forgot how it plays by now. I know TOAW has a lot more scenarios from different time periods. How do these two games compare UI-wise and difficulty?

As previous owner of Korsun Pocket I feel that it is being over-rated by the general mass media. Undeniably it is a really good wargame and while it possess some innovative designs(like the blunder advisor),it is in overall far from groundbreaking and has too much of a boardgame feel to it. The only reason which i can fathom why the mainstream pc-game review rave about it is its simplicity in design that allows the mainstream gamers to appreciate it and its UI which is rather attractive and palatable to the mainstream gamers.
Though i heard that many raved about the Korsun Pocket's AI,i feel that it is TOAW3's AI that provides the real challenge, though part of the reason is due to the game system itself and the wide scope it covers. It certainly can maneuvour well, attack when chances arises and infiltrate the rear area of the defense line when it is porous enough to do so. Overall its UI is easy to get used to though its unconventional round system takes time to get used to.
In all,by all means pruchase TOAW3 if you profess to be a grognard.[8D]

I would say that both games are rather similar. TOAW is more complex and more flexible in terms of scenario design.

As for the UI, well they're both clunky (as are all wargames) but I find that once you get used to them it's OK.

I like them both, but I find myself playing TOAW 3 more because of the scenarios. HOWEVER, I like the Korsun Pocket and Battles in "BLANK" series better due to the looks and the play style and the board game feel with dice and CRT tables. They are better at single type battles in that genre, whereas TOAW has a better system covering all wars.

Get this TOAW 3 and play 2-3 hours a day , start with smaller scenario ( DONT touch the large scenario yet ) and after a while , you just can't stop playing ...

It is one of those easy to play and hard to master wargame

In many years to come , I bet the game will be still remain in your hard disk ...:)

Cheers

Thank you for all the feedback. I am trying to decide whether to get the all digital version, or the download and box version. Not sure there is any point to the box version since there is no printed manual anyway.

I got my first Matrix Game that way, but having the pretty box doesn't do much for me and I can burn my own backup CDs, so I've done digital download since then. Plus there's that instant gratification of course [;)]

I wanted to opt for the digital download, but the bride insisted that she order it, so I could have a Dad's day gift "in a box". Beyond that, not knowing she could order direct from Matrix, she ordered via an online game store, so I'm still waiting....

The good thing about all this is that it has given me time to absorb some of the knowledge here on the forums, and also I've been able to get some work and socializing done, something that is sure to stop when the Holy Grail gets here.

I envy you instant gratification folks, but in a twisted way I'm sure the anticipation is somehow making me a better person, and when the boxed copy does get here I will be able to use it to erect a shrine on my desk or something.

I'm not sure I received instant gratification. I have a bunch of reading to do now. I played a couple of turns from some small scenario, and it brought back a little memory of playing TOAW 1 many years ago. I need to find a good tutorial or something.

Delayed gratification builds character and is good for the soul. I keep telling myself this as I anxiously watch my mailbox.[:(] I just know I will be a better person for my trials.[:(]
