I was never able to run this game.Probably there's something i'm missing. When i try to skip the first presentation screen it just goes to windows!!!What's that?Does the game have different sistem requirements comparing to spwaw??'cause that works fine.It seems strange to me that an entire game has only less that 5000 k.Is it correct or do i have to download something else???The same it happens to me with War in the Pacific.I have a Ati 16 mb all in wonder.Does this make any problems?
Thanks a lot in advantage

You are probably having memory errors due to a shortage of memory in the first 640k. WIR (and PACWAR) is a DOS game, stuck with DOS memory limits of using just the first 640k. Depending on your OS, you have some options. There are a number of old threads on this, but if you post your OS, people may be able to give you advice on freeing memory if you don't want to dig through the old message a few months back.
Good luck!

Sorry about that - I normally spell things out but was fairly busy at the time and did not think about it with OS. If you try clicking on the Start Button, it will show what operating system (OS) you are running. It sounds, though, like you are running a newer machine, which will probably have Windows ME or 2000 on it, which there isn't much we can help with, from what I have seen before. If it is Windows 98, though, we can give you tips for changing two files that can free up memory for running the game.

For memory problems under either Win 95 or 98, try using just the following commands in your config.sys file (these should maximize your memory for WIR): device=c:\windows\himem.sys
dos=high,umb
To edit the config.sys (there are other ways also):
Click on Start - Programs - DOS Prompt
Then type cd\ and the enter key.
Then type edit config.sys and make sure the above two lines are the only ones in there - if there are others, add rem and a space to the beginning to them, so you can take the rem out and restore the line if needed for other things. Be sure to save and reboot and this should do it.

hi, if your systems runs with win98 this should work: copy WarInRussia to a folder named WIR.
then reboot (start) your computer press (and hold) F8. in the following menu choose no.4 (single confirmation -i hope i translated it correctly). then deny every line EXCEPT the line with DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS - this should free enough DOS memory to run WIR and even PACWAR (but you´ll have to use your keyboard for playing both). your computer is now in DOS-mode, type "cd wir" - and then "wir" - hope it works for you as it worked for me - k2

if u change your config.sys you may rechange it later (remove the rem´s - but if you try it the k2-way you don´t need to change anything. but you need to play keyboard only. btw have fun it a nice game!!!

your welcome - btw the most important key is the "/" (european keyboard "-" <- located left of the right shift-key) - it gives you the list with all keyboard commands.

You need to hit the F8 key when the Loading Windows message appears. You don't want to hold it before that, and it you are too late it won't work either. Also, if you have a lot of things in your config.sys file and don't know what they do, then try this if you have a floppy disk, rather than the F8 trick:
Go to the DOS prompt the way I mentioned before. Type sys a: and enter with the floppy in the drive. This will copy (I think, it has been awhile) the system files needed to boot to the floppy. Then copy the autoexec.bat and config.sys files to the floppy (again I don't remember if it copies them as part of the above or not) by
copy c:\autoexec.bat a: <enter>
copy c:\config.sys a: <enter>
Then type a: and then the commands I gave before for changing the config.sys file to put in just the two lines ON the floppy only. Then when you want to play WIR or PACWAR start the computer with this floppy in the drive and it will load the desired setup, otherwise start the computer without the floppy in the drive.
If you have problems with this, e-mail me your current config.sys file and I can create one for you to copy onto a floppy, or your config.sys may be simple enough to get it to work without taking anything important out.

hi Urquhart, you finally are getting somewhere! when the "Microsoft Windows... C:\>" line appears the only thing you finally have to do is to enter the DOS commands:
cd wir
(then press return - this changes directory to wir).
the line should now be: C:\WIR>
now enter:
wir
(this starts the wir.exe file)
now the game should start whitout a problem!
the most important things now are the manual (print it out) and the "/" key (here in europe the "-" <- left of the right shift-key) because that key is giving you all the keyboard commands!
try this...
