Newbie asking for help in Sarantaporon

OK, this is just embarrassing. After completing the tutorial scenario, and thinking "hey, this is cool, I think I have the hang of this", I proceeded, as advised, to the Sarantaporon-Daylight scenario. As that was the first time I was playin without the manual, I decided to replay it several times to try and get a hang of how each unit influenced the battle, and so on. As a benchmark, the first game I played I tried just picking up all the units with the moue selection tool and ordering them to attack the enemy position directly. After that, I tried developing and testing several plans of attack. Well, the first attempt was so far the only decisive victory I managed to get. [:(]
Can anyone help me out with some hints on how to use the forces I have a bit better? Not generic hints, those I've been picking off from the other topics on the forum, but specifically that one scenario? What do I do with the armoured recce squadrons I get at start? What about the poor rangers, who keep breaking in every single attempt? The terrain around the main road is incredibly difficult for all my mechanized units to navigate, one slight deviation and I can lose a couple hours bogged down in what seems like a swamp.
Summing up: Heeeeelp. [:D]
