Convert Saved Game to Secure PBEM

Thanks to Svar refreshing the old notes on converting a scenario to secure PBEM, I can confirm that a saved game can be converted the same way. I couldn't find the question about it so I started this new thread - sorry about that. Anyway, to convert a saved game to PBEM, do the following:
1. Back up a built in scenario in the WIR directory. For example, rename the obwir and obwir.md files to obwirgood and obwirgood.md, or something. These are the 1941 campaign files.
2. Open the saved game in the editwir program.
3. Simply save the entire setup as obwir.
4. Rename the saveX.md file to obwir.md so that the map data is correct at that point.
5. Start the game choosing the 1941 campaign and secure PBEM which is now the saved game, and you are ready to play secure.

This may not work for too much longer. Arnaud is considering blocking editwir from working on save games, or at least the secure PBEM ones, so I don't know what effect it will have on tricks like this.

Thank you, Svar :D

Thanks for that info. Especially the map file as i was wondering about that. Why would Arnaud change this?, cant hurt anyone and gives us option to rectify problem with converting modified games to pbem games.

Thanks Ricky & Svar.

Thanks Ricky & Svar.

You are welcome, Nick. The reason for doing it is to prevent someone from editing a game in progress to their advantage. That is why it may be limited to secure PBEM games, rather than all. I personally don't worry about the secure PBEM games because if I can't trust the person I am playing I won't play them anymore anyway.

OK. I see. Agree with you on that last one also.
