List of battles mentioned in announcement

Likely a very dumb question indicating I have not read much, but....

"Battlefront features the power of battalion-level combat in some of this period's most bloody and intense conflicts: Saipan, Market Garden, Novorossisk, and Gazala."

My question is, will this game ONLY feature the above 4 mentioned battles?
Is there hoped for plans for additional battles if the initial game does well if the first release is to only be the above 4 mentioned battles?

I cant talk about future releases from SSG - although I think its fair to say if the reaction to BF is positive then I would expect that SSG probably would look at releasing following up BF games.

Also, whilst I cant confirm it.. I know that there are some variant scenarios around for the SSG scenarios.  For example, Im pretty sure that Steve Ford/SSG have a 'free landing' variant of the Market Garden scenario - which is similar to what Steve did for Battles in Normandy.  I dont know if this variant will be packaged up for release with BF - but if not.. it will immediately be made available for download from Run5/SSG.

I can confirm though - that the Fan base community over at Run5 have already commenced work on some user made scenarios.  And in my opinion some of these that have previously been released for the DBWWII system have been as good - if not better then some of the SSG scenarios.  And the best thing of all is that these scenarios are freebies!  So the scenario designers that are part of the SSG testing team are already behind the BF product and busy creating additional scenarios as we type..

I can understand Market-Garden, Gazala and Saipan, but why Novorossisk? What is so significant about it? Wouldn't it be better for a Stalingrad or Sevastopol?

Im sure withing  afew months of the game coming out someone will create a Stalingrad scenario. Thats one reason why Im going to buy the game when it comes out.

If someone also creates a Sevastopol sceanrio then thats a double bonus.

I would have prefered the scale at company level though, but battalion level is about as high as I like to go and Im sure it will turn out good.

Coincidently, those first three battles had been designed for CA a looong time ago. I think Novo was being worked on or for another game system (maybe TOAW), anyway, it's a curious thing, huh?[:-]

I'll enjoy playing them in both systems, once both are released. [8D]

Gents,

I think the pick of battles is great.
Market Garden and Gazala is very famous battles. Saipan has never been done
before for computer and is a very good battle. I personal look forward for that one.
So we have come to the pick of battle from the Eastern Front, sure there are alot
of battles who could been chosen. But I will give cudos that Novorossisk was picked.
I am sure that the Battlefront serie will come back to the Eastern Front and other more
famous battles. Novorossik have also not be made for computer before. I personal is
tired of always playing the same battles over and over again. New blood is needed.

Kind Regards
Ola

I agree. I like the choices with, perhaps, the exception of Market Garden. I've Market Gardened to death over the years but it will be familiar ground to see what this baby has under the cover. I simply cannot wait for the release of this game. [:)]

I agree Market Garden had been overdone, I am tired of hearing about it.  However I do love the other 2 battles and am looking forward to this game.

I really love the fact that Gazala is in, like the fact that Saipan is in, am eager to give Market-Garden another go, but would have rather had Velikie Luki for the Eastern Front. I also hope someone does a Kharkov scenario.

Velikiye Luki (Korsun Pocket, Brubaker) is at http://www.ssg.com.au/Run5/scenarios.htm you can always play Sevastopol with Pete_AU's Crimea (:D) 1854 at the same link and IIRC someone is working on a Kharkov scenario. I would actually like a Leningrad battle, I don't think i've ever seen one.

I have seen those scenarios but no longer own any SSG games except BII. I hopt the VL scenario is updated with the new engine.

I'm reminded of those lists of 100 best novels, albums, movies etc. Even with 100 choices to make, people never agree. With somewhat less than 100 battles, we can't hope to please everybody. However, we have deliberately spread out the scenarios so all major combatants are represented. This will make scenario creation much easier, and I'm sure that there will be plenty of user created scenarios to keep everybody happy.

Market Garden is probably the cleverest choice for inclusion at this scale being that the campaign is fairly limited in the number of divisions involved and the terrain not vast on the flanks.

I'd much rather have seen a Kharkov 41-43, a Kursk-Mius 43-44 or a Morocco-Tunisia 43.

All of these titles would have been able to break off into further official mini-campaigns and add value to the title in terms of scenario spread and uniqueness of setting. Kudos to Battlefront for at least including the Pacific Theatre.

I don't know if I like the approach of including assorted theatres in one release, in order to "showcase the system's DYO potential". It gives images of V4 Victory which really felt disjointed out of the box. If a selection of campaigns must be included, I'd rather buy a collection of related actions - Normandy to the Rhine, Barbarossa to Moscow, Stalingrad to the Dnepr, Western Pacific, Eastern Pacific etc.

Normally I don't comment on a pending release, being that I prefer to own a game in order to back up my thoughts/impressions. But as Battlefront will be a hybrid of Decisive Battles and I've got them all bar Dnepr, it feels like a old friend deserving some scrutiny under the pre-release magnifying glass [;)]

Adam.

I suppose that is where SSG will never win. I think exactly the opposite. So few games include the pacific theatre and would it sell as well if that is all it included? I reckon they have it spot on going with battles from all the differing theatres.
