hi all, running on a mac, using parallels and XP SP2. There is nothing else installed in XP until harpoon. I can't get it to launch at all, there is nothing running on the mac side so the XP is flying along, can't understand why it won't work? installation seemed to go ok, suggestions? i get a window or two opening then it just hangs...

Hello Douglas,
when something like this happens one of the windows usually has some sort of error message in it. Could you please check if you can find any error so we can try to track down the problem. Additionally you might want to go ahead and try starting the game with the Harpoon 3 Configuration Launcher. Do do this please do the following:
1. Click Start
2. Select All Programs
3. Select Harpoon 3 Advanced Naval Warfare
4. Select Extras
5. Select the H3 Configuration launcher
Please make the following changes in the configuration launcher.
1. open the .opt-Files Tab and make sure that RunInWindow.opt file is in the Enabled (left) side
2. open the Video and Sound options and check the 640x480 button
3. open the Launch H3 MP Tab and do the following
a) activate the skip intro checkbox
b) activate the Trap Error checkbox
c) in the Harpoon 3 Single Player section plesae hit the Run button
after this a DOS-like window will appear in which some text is displayed about your registration being checked. Please let me know in case any other error message appears in that window. Almost at the same time a second window will appear which is the Harpoon 3 ANW game window. In some cases I have had to select a different window and then go back to that one before it would display properly.
If this doesn't work please close Harpoon 3 ANW and go back to the H3 Configuration Launcher. Leave all settings like they are, but please go to the .opt files tab and move the RunInWindow.opt file to the right (disabled) side and try againn.
Please let me know at which point during this procedure you can't get further and please check if opening a different window and going back to the Harpoon 3 ANW window fixes the problem.
Cheers,
JP

I think that you are out of luck. See the message on
AGSI forum
We are only going forward with Windows specific versions of our products until such time that a rich, highly skilled, motivated Harpoon player steps forward and convinces me that they can update the 3.6 Mac code to 3.7.
Should happen right after i win the Texas Lottery.
As stated above, we simply do not have enough sales to warrant the high cost of labor to do a Mac version. Even Jesse saw the economics didn't make sense.
We do have folks with the hottest Macs who use Virtual PC and they say the game plays fine - even in MP mode.
I'm sorry - this is a business decision.

He explicitly said that he dual-boots to WindowsXP. That's possible with the new Intel-based Macs so he should be able to run H3, although we haven't explicitly tested that configuration.

Hi JP,
Thanks for that, I get the dos like window, and then either:
with run in window enabled - an outline of a new window but just the desktop background in the window itself
without run in window enabled - black background, with a coloured window outline.
I have taken two screenshots, would these help?

Hey Douglas,
this problem is new to us. You can send your screenshots to
jpkoester@advancedgaming.biz and I will take a look at them. Additionally coulde you try minimizing the window that just displays the outline and then maximizing it again?
Cheers,
JP

Hi Douglas,
thanks for the screenshots. That really does look weired and it seems like the whole H3 screen isn't rendered at all. I'll have to take this to our coder to see if he can come up with a solution or even with a guess as to what the problem might be.
Cheers,
JP

Hi Douglas,
we at AGSI don't handle the download stuff any more. This is now done by Matrixgames and their cooperation partners. There is probably an option somewhere on the Matrix website where you can get a redownload of the game. Otherwise it might be necessary to contact their support department.
Sorry I can't give you a direct link to a download site,
JP
