New Guy Needs Harpoon3 ANR Help

I have played the old Harpoon Classic for years. Just bought and downloaded the new Harpoon3 ANR.
I confess to being not very technically sharp on the PC, but will try and explain my problem.
I have completed the download and get the initial screen showing the jet fighter and all the options. I click on the Play option and it loads for a while. Then I get a green over black screen showing the various options and games overlaying another screen which says
"Unsupported Color Depth. Can't continue. Something seriously wrong with the graphics (out of date video driver). Attempting Matrix Games special number validation. Matrix games validation successful."
Clicking back I find the red and black screen showing the maps, etc, but it is not filled in with any data or units and I cannot seem to click on anything that will operate.
Thinking maybe my video drivers were not up to date,I contacted Dell who gave me the latest video drivers for my computer. The Dell Tech Rep also said maybe I would have to add an upgraded video card. Not sure I understand where they are going with this.
My computer is a Dell Diminsion 2350, about three years old, and I'm running Windows XP.
I asked the Tech Rep what kind of video card I had and he said it was a video chipset on the main board.
I presume what he is telling me is that I need to add an optional (better?) video card that will disable and replace the one on the Dell board??
Can anybody walk me (carefully and on a dumbed-down basis) through this problem?
I tried to look on Matrix's web page for one-on-one support, but have not yet found this resource.
Thanks.
