Leningrad always falls in 1942

In the 1942 campaign, Leningrad always falls before october if it́s attacked strongly every turn. It́s not way to defend it.
The garrison is entrenched in level 6 or more, but after the first attack, falls to level 1. This is OK in open hexes (after a strong attack, if the defender retreats a little (even 1 Km), the defender will loose the prepared defensive positions).
But in cities, after a destroyed building there is another destroyed building. So, the entrenchment level must fall no so fast. Remember Stalingrad.

Probably would have in real life also, if attacked strongly. And if Hitler had not become obssessed with attacking in the south since he had decided that the resources in the south were more important than capturing Moscow and Leningrad.

Cities do have their own built in entrenchment factor of some level, and some cities have a fortress factor on top of that. So even though the unit entrenchment, which I believe is all you see, falls to one, there is still a higher entrenchment for the cities. Whether it is enough is another matter, but there are other cases where cities hold out against everything thrown at them, just as Stalingrad. Bringing my OLD (but apparently not as OLD as Svar) friend Don into the discussion as usual, he and I were testing one of the versions before release and Odessa held out for months, and then counterattacked in the blizzards. The attacking force was weak, which made a big difference, but there were constant attacks (and look Don, no mention of who was who for this one). Overall, I think it works fairly well. By the way, you mention Leningrad falling before October, but when did the attacks start? Was it a turn or two, or 5-6 or what? Thanks for the further information.

The attacks start at the first turn. But the repetead air attacks drops entrenchment level to 1 at first turn!
Air attacks couldn“t be destroy city entrenchments so easily.

Lorenzo, that is exactly what I thought when you shattered my (at least numerically)strong, dug-in Kharkov garrison with your surprising long-range panzer attack after heavy aerial bombardments.

The city entrenchment level is separate from the unit entrenchments. I am just about positive that the game only shows the unit entrenchment, and that the city entrenchment is separate and never changes at all. The scenario starts on June 28, so if it takes up to 3 months of attacks before it falls, it sounds quite historical to me. If the Germans had concentrated on capturing the city in 1942, I believe it would have fallen, and probably quicker than 3 months. Now, as has been raised in other threads, maybe the Germans are too strong in the 1942 scenario, but I think the entrenchments work about right.

Especially since the defenders by this point in time were by this point, eating bread made from paint chips and were weaken to the point that they could barely continue to bury the dead. The siege of Leningrad is the true look at the resliency of the Russian people. Kind of makes you wonder why any army actually thinks they can be defeated.

I think so. In this campaing, the Germans can attack Leningrad, Moscow, Voronezh, Tula, Stalingrad and Caucasus... All!!
