Soviet units EATING supplies!

Every single turn my Soviet armies suffer from low readiness! I'm forced to spend all my valuable OP's on supplies for my damn units, ALL THE TIME! Is there somehting wrong with those cotton-pickin' Red Army schmucks?! Why the heck can't they give me a frigging breake!? How the .... am I supposed to conduct counter-offensives on a grand scale with Shock Armies consuming 40 OP's in special supply each turn. And I can't just ignore the special supply since their damn readiness always drops to about 20% or even less!!! :(

HELP!!!

Rundstedt,

You really don't have the capability to mount much of a summer offensive until 1943, so conserve your forces and only counter attack on the general front during the blizzard of 41/42 and on the bad weather turns of the winter of 42/43. The rest of the time prepare a good defense and wait. How far have you actually played any one game?

Maybe your units contain too many divisions or standing on low supply hexes or both.

Well... I might have too many divisions in my corps, but if I remove or transfer divisions out of my corps, won't their CV decrease then? So either way, I lose! :(

I read somewhere in the manual about "stacking points". Do they limit my ability to add divisions to my corps?

And by the way. I'm playing the Russians against the computer, winter 1941-1942, but I'm not able to push those Fascists out of Russia even though there's a blizzard. Aren't they supposed to SUFFER? :D

Stacking points reducing readiness of divisions and bn's in unit.

Uuh... I'm ashamed to tell you this, but I'm actually testing my skills (!) against the computer. It's early January 1942 and I've almost managed to liberate Smolensk (did the Russians really do that in real life?). But almost doesn't count, I know. Those bastards are trying to encircle me at Leningrad, but my brave little Bolshevists are making a good stand. Although I'm still surprised the Germans don't sustain more damage during blizzard turns. In one blizzard turn I only managed to rout ONE Axis corps! :o

PS. If there's anyone who has the PBEM program, please send it to me because the matrixlink doesn't work for me. My e-mail is fredrikljunghill@hotmail.com

Thanks in advance. :D

Well I usually try to keep my divisions in a high readiness state, even if this means sacrificing some CV. Remember that next turn, your CV will increase as your armies recover from disorganizing (or so I believe).

There are special rules that reduce the soviet readiness before 1944.

I've found this works.

Sov Inf Armies.....5-7 inf +art
Sov Inf Army Alt...2Tnk/Mch,1 inf+art
Sov Shock..........2Tnk,1Mch,2inf+ 3 ind
Sv Tnk Army........2Tnk,1Mch,2Cav,1HTnk,2Art

In '41 however the universal unit is 1Tk plus 4-5(only) inf as this is the best combination to slow the axis.

Thank's Nick, I just hope I'll have time to transfer my divisions around before the German spring offensive begins. ;)

I use:
inf army: 5 rifle div
shock a.: 2 tank, 6 rifle
tank a.: 3 mech(or tank), 1 cavarly, and subunits

Now this is exactly the stacking point limit. I use this because I'm a coward :D . Soviets usually can't take any readiness penalty, as they have enough penalty already (41 60%, 42 40%, 43 20%)). And you can bet that sligh 5 or 10 % readiness drop will come before the fascist attack  Long live Murphy!

Wait, the Shock Army has the same stacking limit as the Tank Army, 10, so 2 Tank and 6 Rifle is two points over the limit.

ooops  very true! That's why my shock armies underperformed sometimes... It's so hard to make a simple count sometimes, once you missed it you never think about counting again... So thanks, my shock army tactics gonna change to: 2 tank corps, 4 rifle division, 2 artillery. :D

I think I'll follow up on that tip.... ;)

I fill the armies (soviet and german)according to the leader. So if Zhukov commands a Tank or Shock army I put 9 stacking points (usually 2 tank korps, 3 infantry divisions plus sub-units). I never overstacking (if I can)because an army with 9 or more stacking points commanded by Pavlov (or another with low leadership) can be disastrous.

I use one understrength artillery battalion in a Shock Army, am I doing something wrong?

I've got a question (or two) about the stacking point rules in Version 3.0.

In Gary's original manual I read that independent subunits don't count for stacking points. Is it the same in Matrix Version 3.0. For ex.: A Korps with 2 PzDiv, 1 PzGDiv and 4 indep. PzBn should have 9 stacking points (since PZG seems to count 3 points, mot.Div only 1). Is that correct?

And has a PzDiv with 3 PzBn attached to it the same stacking points as a PzDiv with 4 PzBn?

Thanks for answering these (perhaps stupid) questions.

Yes, independent battalions don't count.

Yes, motorized divisions on both sides count only 1 point, but PzG units count as 3 points because almost all of them include tank battalions.

And has a PzDiv with 3 PzBn attached to it the same stacking points as a PzDiv with 4 PzBn?

Yes, it doesn't matter the number of battalions, the game goes only by their designation as a panzer, PzG, or motorized division.

Its actually a good point. Maybe a better way of calculating stacking would be to count all tank battalions in the corps (whether part of a division or independent)?

Thanks for answering these (perhaps stupid) questions.

The only stupid question I know of is the one that isn't asked....

Thanks for the answers, Ed.

I also think it would simply be more logical to count each Panzer/Tank Bn for stacking point calculation.
