Programmed Mouse Button & PureSim

Can anyone re-produce this strange behavior:
I have a 5-button MS Optical mouse. One of the buttons is pre-programmed as the "Back" key.
Start your association (mine is a historical assn). Click on the Almanac button at the bottom. Then click
the pre-programmed "Back" button on the mouse.
A set of menu's comes up not associated with the historical assn.
Warning: the only way to then end PureSim is to use Windows Task Manager.
Using the "Backspace" key on the keyboard does not produce this scenario. Very strange.
Using XP SP2, PS 1.20, IE6
