AI Trading: Closers and RP

I feel like the priority that the AI sets on relief pitching and closers is quite out of whack (even with v1.2). Wondering if anyone else feels this way.

I thought it might have been because I was in a 4-man rotation era w/ no closers, because every team listed 'closer' as their #1 priority. So I thought if I changed the league to closer usage, then the priorities would change.

Nope. Still want closer and relief pitching, and maybe some other position.

More than anything in the game, the trade AI needs work. Like 2-1 over any other section.

Tanaka, are you offering suggestions for improvements, or just complaining?  [8|]

What I was verifying is that it is beyond XML tweaking; thus, Shaun has to do it via coding.

Yeah .. I felt something was wrong with the base coding, as well. I purchased the game and witnessed this in extreme proportions. I just figured "Well, anybody can break a trade AI. I just won't trade players." Then, I managed a couple games and saw some really strange moves ... intentionally walking a guy TO GET TO Vlad Guerrero .. 4 seems to be the magic number with pitchers .. doesn't matter if he's your ace #1 or not .. if it's 1.2 innings and he's given up 4 runs, he's gone. Heck, I saw 1 out recorded by a starter and gave up four runs and was pulled. Then, I finally broke down and worked out a "fair trade", in my estimation, with a relief pitcher and a RF .. only to have the traded players show up in my box score in a simmed game three weeks later.

After I saw that, I just quit playing the game. I know Mr. Sullivan has a lot going on right now and I figured I'd check back in somewhere down the line .. maybe around the stretch run in September and see if some things had been worked out. He's pretty good about getting these things worked out but I just kinda gave up for now.

I was following your thread on the XML file and I thought you were really on to something there, Sitting Duck, but I see that you are correct. No weighting on the XML looks like it's going to fix that problem. It's not like I'm going to some other sim baseball game.

I'll just wait patiently.

Well who was at bat and what was the situation? What were Vlad's ratings as opposed to others? PureSim does not know Vlad from "Joe Smith" it is going on ratings.

No, 4 is not a magic number. Believe me its a lot more in depth than that, you can also adjust managerial tendencies to increase/decrease the manager's decision to pull a starter.

Never had this reported, are you seeing players you traded away showing up on your roster?

Shaun - does the AI just go on ratings, or statistical performance as well? I would hope that stats, and maybe even recent trends (is he hot or cold) would play a part in these decisions.

Yes, stats play a bigger role as the season goes on. Early in the year its more ratings-based.
