TOAW II vs. III

Hi gang,
I have been looking at TOAW III and wondering if I would really like it. As fate would have it, I stumbled accross an old copy of TOAW II at a used book store the other day. It only costs $10. Do you all feel that TOAW II is a good example of what TOAW III is like? I am sure TOAW III is much improved and all that, but It is a lot easier to shell out $10 to see if I like a game before I buy it.
Just looking for some feedback.
Thanks,
Duncan

I think you'd be better off playing the demo for TOAW that came out years ago. Just Google it. If you like it, you are sure to like TOAW III.

I have bought hundreds of PC games over the past ten years and there is only one that I still play and that is TOAW, there is so much that you can do including creating your own scenarios and maps complete down to the slightest detail. TOAW III has improved graphics, and load times and fixes all the issues the other versions had running on XP. The PO is much improved also, I just got ten more years of play with this one, I own every version of TOAW but III has them all beat hands-down.
While the improvements are not any great leap forward (TOAW IV should provide those [:)] ) they are enough to warrent buying the game, and if you like PBEM most players have switched to III so it might be hard to find an oponent.

Most PBEM players will still have COW and can still play COW.
Of course, it sounds like vadersson is refering to Volume II, which is considerably older. TOAW III adds loads on top of that, and no-one either plays or designs for versions older than COW.

But, that would mean digging around and dusting off a CD-ROM...too much work for me when III runs with no CD. [:D]

COW runs without a CD too if you know how.

The other thing is, who wants to play without all the nice new features?

I'd agree with ioticus. And $10 is too much for TOAWII- try $5 and they'll probably take it. I'd download and play the demo- if you like it, shell out the $40 for the digital download of TOAWIII. TOAWII is old- nobody really plays it any more, and certainly nobody designs scenarios for it nowadays.

I bought III on the back of having II for many years (haven't played it for a few tho...) and it's nice to have the II manual to refer to!

But III has a much wider applicability - II only covers post WW2, and some WW2 stuff that was used after 1945, so you don't get all those lovely WW1 scenarios for it [8D]
