Why not WEGO turns?

Does anyone knw why WIR was not made with a simultaneous execution phase? It would seem to me that it could just as easily have been made this way (the plot-then-move system seems ideal for it), and it would have been far more realistic than having each side move in turn, boardgame style.

Maybe AI was the problem, the AI would have had to learn to factor in human moves into its plans. On the other hand it could hardly do much worse than now... <img src="biggrin.gif" border="0">
