List of Remaining Bugs for Shaun

Shaun is looking to fix the remaining bugs (since v1.28) so he can go final with 2007, so I thought I would try and put together a comprehensive list of everything I've read in the last few days. I'm not going to include feature requests, just bugs (major and minor) and possible "tweaks". Feel free to reply to this thread and I will continue to update this first post. I'll also note the player who reported it in case he needs more info from them. There are some items (like the fact that the manual is out of date) that I'm not going to list here. Gonna try and put on my developer hat and only go for the realistic fixes.

8/4/06 - Updating for clarity, adding severity's to help with prioritization. (They are all my opinions, not Shaun's)

Fixed Bugs (Or Invalid)

Major - HR's and Offense may be down in the last patch due to some changes in the physics code. [Fixed in v1.29]

Major - Player injured in game (according to PbP), but doesn't leave the game and is never really injured. (PadresFan, DeltaDog, others) [Fixed in 1.31]

Major - Injured pitchers (on bench and not disabled) healing too quickly (sometimes overnight!) (SittingDuck) [Fixed in 1.31]

Major - I get a ctd every time I shop a minor leaguer to all teams. It works like this: 1) open any minor league player sheet 2) hit "shop player" button 3) Hit "shop player to all teams" button 4) examine the player sheet of one or more players from other teams 5) decide you don't want to trade and start cancelling all of the windows you've opened 6) when you close the player sheet from the original minor league player you were trying to trade - boom - ctd (kingwannabe) [Fixed in 1.31]

Medium - Fly Out Distance 0' bug. [Fixed in v1.29 - though there are reports of folks seeing this again in 1.30]

Medium - Sometimes runners not taking 2 bases on a 2-base throwing error [Fixed in 1.30]

Medium - The link to the fan sites on the Main Screen is no longer working. [Fixed in v1.29]

Medium - Unique awards titles (from puresim.xml) not being used; default values are being used regardless of custom value/name. Specifically, it looks like the last four titles (Rookie Pitcher, Rookie Player, Gold Glove and Pure Slugger) are not being recognized. The first two seem to work properly. (SittingDuck)
Not a valid bug -- make sure you exit and restart PureSim in order for it to pick up changes to the XML

Medium - PSPN Frequency Days not being respected by user.xml file. Seems to default to 7 days regardless of user.xml value (SittingDuck)
Not a valid bug -- make sure you exit and restart PureSim in order for it to pick up changes to the XML

Minor - Splits not lining up correctly on last row of player card (sposfan)

Not Reproducible or Driver Related

- At times while playing the game (Windows ME) it sounds like machine gun fire. (wlfcards) [Not reproducible] [Be sure to install the latest version of DirectX and sound drivers]

- Sometimes, an outcome pitch is thrown and there is the crack of the bat, the ball moves forward and vanishes. The play be play then reads that the hitter has flown out to the outfield, but with no appropriate ball flight animation. (KG Erwin, Deltadog)
[Not a bug -- if you press a key at any time during a play result it skips the animation]

- Problems with HR Fireworks. a) Sometimes only a single firework shell sound is heard, with no other sounds or visuals (PadresFan). b) the opposing team just hit a home run. Well when the sounds for the fireworks tried to play.. the game just closed.. really fast.. no error.. just closed. (akcranker)
[Not a PureSim bug - DirectX related - Make sure you have the latest version of DirectX and have your video card drivers up to date]

Issues Remaining in v1.32

Bugs

Major - New association, finished the first season and created the almanac. There were no career splits created. Just the heading and all info blank. I tried rebuilding the almanac and it didn't help. (BauerPower)

Major - Player recovering from a career ending injury (SittingDuck, henry296)

Medium - I recently had an occurrence of the error where a guy steals second, then the batter is pinch-hit for, and the baserunner on second get's another at-bat while he is on second. Then the pinch-hitter gets to bat. (risk_doc)

Medium - Bottom of 8th with 1 out and runners on 1st & 3rd. Chicago Batting. Atlanta moved infield in and outfield shallow. Hitter Werner Velez flew out to Shallow Right. Play by Play says Great defensive play by Glen Willams. [[Note which appeared on screen (white background red text read, Werner Velez flew out to shallow right field "0" ]] Play by play continues to state that Leland Rogers is attempting to tag and score. Last pitch 89 mph (fastball) 2 outs, Runners on First and Third. Obviously the runner on 3rd did not follow through on the act. (Deltadog, Woodruff)

Medium - Player ratings are NOT changing by the amounts listed under the "Ratings Changes Report" from the TEAM REPORTS screen. Not even close to the amounts, in many, many cases. Possibly most of the cases. (1-100 scale) (Woodruff)

Minor - Rookie draft and free agency don't properly take into consideration how many players you are required yet to sign combined with how much cash you have available. (Woodruff)

Minor - Players asking for less than $50,000 but the game still computing it as $50,000. (Woodruff)

Minor - I had a player on the 60 day DL. I put him on around Sept 1. At the last day of the season, I got 4 msg windows right in a row (click ok another would pop up) that said "Boise City's Houston Bell is elegible to return from the disabled list" (Abev)

Minor - When using the Add-Ins to generate a report, I click on a player to bring up the card. When I close the card it shows up again. (rpommier)

Minor - Sometimes, when a player attempts to steal a base, the ball/strike count starts over. (jono,verizon32)

Minor - Sometimes, Free Agents stats not properly displayed. It is showing their minor league stats in the free agent list when they have major league stats available to view.(Abev)

Minor - Pitching Leaders report in the Statistics and Reports screen does not have a comma between the player name and the team name, like the Batting Leaders report does. (PadresFan104)

Minor - Pre 1.29 when on the "contract status report" the page would refresh everytime it got the focus. So if you clicked a player card and ended up making a trade of a player who was on the last yr of his contract it would come back into that screen with that player removed. It seems to have stopped with 1.29. Anyone elese report the same thing? (Abev) Additional info from Abev: While IN Season it doesnt refresh. But at the END of the season it does refresh. I was signing players at the trade deadline and no refresh. I was signing players at the end of the season and when it got back the focus it would refresh. (Abev)

Minor - At the end of the season, after the playoffs in contract extension time, if I view the Team Statistics page and then click on a column (such as BA or HR), the game flips over to the Contract Summary page (where you see the years/salary)(SittingDuck)

Minor - Runner on first, he steals 2nd, 0-1 count. Pinch hit for the pitcher and the guy gets a single but the message said that the pitcher got the hit not the PH. The good thing is that the PH's name showed up at 1st and his stats were adjusted, not the pitcher's. Just a PbP issue. (JReb,jono)

Minor - Pitchers not showing up on "relief" list in the Major League roster even though they show as being on my Major League roster over to the left-hand side. (Woodruff) [Not reproducible, but Woodruff is going to try and send an assoc. to Shaun so he can see the bug.]

Requested Tweaks

1) CPU playing a completely exhausted catcher, as they did not have a backup on the ML roster. They did however have 3 catchers in AAA. Might be indicative of a larger roster management issue. (PadresFan)

2) In historical leagues, there are reports of massive pitcher ratings drops. (33sherman, BauerPower)

3) Created a league with financials off. One had a 35 man limit and the other 70. With both associations when the first year was completed and the ammy draft took place only a two teams made picks besides my team. I thought it was because their rosters were at the limit so the second time I looked at all teams and made sure that each time had 5 roster spots open for the draft, but still only two teams made picks. (BauerPower)

4) The trade AI has GOT to stop prioritizing Closers and Relief Pitching, especially before the 5-man rotation era. It is just hacking the trade AI to shreds. (SittingDuck)

5) The team management AI is weighting players on the DL in an odd way so that they are liable to trade away a great injured play to the detrament of the orgnization. (SittingDuck)

Don't forget the salary bugs:

1) Rookie draft and free agency don't properly take into consideration how many players you are required yet to sign combined with how much cash you have available.

2) Players asking for less than $50,000 but the game still computing it as $50,000 (this should be fixed so that they don't ask for something they can't get).

3) What do you mean fixing the manual isn't a "realistic fix"? Spoken like a true developer there! (laughing) --- I can get away with that...I'm a programmer myself. But seriously...documentation is important.

I know, but I also know that it just isn't going to happen this go-round. Needs to be addressed, but will most likely wait. [:(]

1) This is happening with the last few patches. I start a new league in 1907, draft the players. Play the first season. Then when it progresses to the next year, it cuts ALL the pitcher's stuff to 50-53 except for the pitchers who already had lower stuff than 50. So basically all the pitchers on all the major league rosters for all teams including the rookie crop coming in have 50-53 stuff. The first time this happened I thought it was because the association I was using was created with an earlier patch. So I created a new association with 1.26 and went to next season and sure enough it did it to me a second time. 33sherman also confirmed that this happened and we both had one exception and it was the same pitcher: a guy named George Curry who had stuff of 100, but velocity and control of 5 and 5.

2)I took KG Irwin's advice twice and created a league with financials off.

I'd like to see the issue with the AI shuffling rosters at the end of the season fixed: tm.asp?m=1204145

It's a long-standing problem, and every time it gets brought up, it seems to get lost in the shuffle.

Cool. Where do I find the "big list of features/fixes/tweaks" that Shaun puts out with each release? I don't have the inclination to search through all of the forum threads to figure out what is/isn't fixed.

When each release is ... um... released, Shaun describes the fixes in the relevant post.

1.25: tm.asp?m=1208891
1.26: tm.asp?m=1209177
1.27: Debug version of 1.26, no other changes
1.28: tm.asp?m=1210201

Every beta version has like one paragraph's worth of tweaks/fixes.  Not that much to read.   Shaun titles his release threads by the beta version name.  Easy to spot, very short and concise.

I don't think this was added, but:

Injured pitchers (on bench and not disabled) healing too quickly (sometimes overnight!)

I have to add this in because it will affect things a good bit:

The trade AI has GOT to stop prioritizing Closers and Relief Pitching, especially before the 5-man rotation era.  It is just hacking the trade AI to shreds.

NEW BUG:

I was in the process of managing a game with the NAMBLA Association and the opposing team just hit a home run.  Well when the sounds for the fireworks tried to play.. the game just closed.. really fast.. no error.. just closed.

This could just be something that was a one time case or isolated to only me but I thought I would post it.  I opened Puresim back up and went and played that game again with no problems.  I actually don't mind that it happened because my team performed better the second time around :P

Almanac Bug: League pitching stats doesn't calculate average run/game correctly.  Shown as total not average.

Man after a long day at work this thread is a tough one to look at :)

Thanks for doing this! We'll see if we can't knock as many of these out as possible.

Thanks Shaun. The good news is that none of these are even close to show stoppers for me, or anyone else as far as I can tell. The game is really playing great now. Just fix bug #8 for me huh? My website hits have stalled at 8295. [:'(]

I'll probably try and keep this thread updated as you release additional patches to address these issues. I like it as it helps reduce the multiple posts of the same problem...

S'ok, Shaun. By killing adding any new features, you can iron stuff out. I think setting that 'no more new features' is a very good idea. Then you can sew stuff up to your own desires over time and move on. Either way, you learn more about programming, I guess.

On the 'Quick Healing Player' issue, I am wondering if there is some type of erroneous reporting of the injury time? Because sometimes it only takes a few days (if they are benched but not disabled), but other times it takes the amount that the game originally forecasts. I mean, say it is a 2 week injury forecast. I've seen them heal in 2-3 days (once even in one day!) and then I've seen them take 15 days while they sit on the bench.

So I tend to think it isn't an issue with the healing as opposed to the reporting. Just a thought...[8D]
