What Happened to Offense?

Just finished my first season with 1.28 (5th season overall) and the top Runs scored by a team was 628! I never touched the xml in that way (just tweaked the injury settings a bit). Anyone else have this ?

must be something I did. The xml file size I was using was 216k, the new one is 225. I guess something was added since 1.22-ish?

Actually I've notice the same thing the last 2-3 seasons, since 1.26. A reduction in runs scored. Fewer homeruns. Record era's. But I'm running a fictional league and just simmed 1969-71 and was wondering if this was some kind of period thing reflecting the era. So that's a question I have. I had tweaked the settings under options to produce slightly more homeruns and hits than 50 because I like my league that way, but the offensive anemia occurred anyway. I don't mess with the xml. So is this just indicative of the period or is something wrong?

I ran dif software against each new versions xml file and according to it there was no change between 1.25, 1.26 and now 1.28. There was a paragraph added in 1.25 that dealt with "new XML entries: FIELDING_ERRORS_THROW, FIELDING_ERRORS_THROW2BASE, FIELDING_ERRORS_OF_MULTIBASE"

This is a real problem for me
*players with >400 PA
Season Avg HR BA
vers 1.20
06 17.8 .277
07 16.6 .277
08 18.6 .284
09 15.8 .276
vers 1.28
10 10.9 .266
11 .9 .239 (thru April)
Any suggestions how to get this back to reality?

I'd say lower the mound, but dunno...
Hope more people give feedback on this. I'll have to watch my 1966 league (that I keep restarting [:@] ). I had auto-simmed the season about 10 times, making various production tweaks via the option sliders and had it down as close to historical (in league totals) as possible. So if it is way off, I'll wonder mightily.
I'll post in the next few days with feedback (assuming I don't restart that damn thing again).

Well since the 3 or 4 other regulars are actually doing real work, I'll take the bull by the horns.
In seach of a solution to the lack of offense, I cranked <ADJUST_HIT_INTO_AN_OUT Value="2" ValueReal=".92"/> to "2" from .975 (i think). I think I went the wrong way [;)]

I am going to turn <ADJUST_HIT_INTO_AN_OUT Value="2" ValueReal=".92"/> down to .7 and see what happens.
Shaun please weigh in on this if you know what was changed to create such a pitching dominant league.

In the game itself there is sliders for hits, homeruns, etc in options.
You can adjust the offense from there.

Dropping HIT_INTO_AN_OUT will increase league BA and increase ERA.

I don't really think any of the changes I made would impact offense too much.
What assn config are you using?

I too have noticed a big drop in the offensive numbers with 1.28.

I'm wondering if the wall colision is causing an impact.
I just finished a 1947 season with real ballparks and Ralph Kiner hit 5 HRs in 562 AB playing his home games in Forbes Field. In real life at Forbes Field he hit 51.
The total runs scored in that sim was 9300 while in real life there was 10,700 which is 14% less than real life.

Plenty of offense in my fictional association. 60 man rosters, modern day usage, modern day parks.

ERA is down significantly in my league, but not BA. Can't figure that out.

Here's a comparison of my 1947 NL stats vs. Actual NL 1947 Stats. I started in 1946 with the early import option and using real stadiums from PadreFans site.
AB - 43,046 / 42,434
R - 4,696 / 5,666
2b - 1,972 / 1,860
3b - 333 / 392
HR - 468 / 886
BB - 5,104 / 4,477
SO - 4,798 / 4,529
BA - 262 / 265
OBP - 335 / 338
SLG - 356 / 390
OPS - 691 / 728
I think the issue is caused by a lack of home runs. Batting Average and On base % are pretty similar as are doubles and triples, but the lack of home runs decreases runs and slugging percentage. My experience with Kiner examplifies this situation.

I'll do some analysis on this tonight. I did change some of the fly ball physics code, so maybe that's it. I'll run some sims with the old and new physics code and look at the delta.

Does it help to rebuild the almanac?
This way the stats are updated with latest patch changes?

A quick update here, I just tested this and in 1947 up to 8/1 I had 1211 play results that we rolled up as HR. The avg HR distance was 367.35 feet. When I used the old physics code the avg HR distance was 385.86 feet so we are talking about HR's flying 18 feet less, likely resulting in a lot of "HR turns into a fly ball" results. There may be something to this.
I'll keep you posted.
