Has someone thought about an witp in the mediterranean war? well, maybe be another game, not scenario, but it would be fantastic, those sparvieros, littorios, ark royals... all the DAK... the jump to Italy...

This witp engine will be very suitable to make this project... it´s only an idea (mediterranean scenario is my favourite part of the war after Pacific [:'(])

My understanding is that 2by3 was floating the idea for a while of actually doing a mediterranean sequel to WitP. I'm not sure why it got axed but I believe it did. I agree that a Mediterranean sequel would be incredible though.

Actually I would love to have the entire second world war done with the UV/WitP engine. Of course they'd have to revamp land combat a bit since there would be a lot more of it and I have no idea how a map of the entire Earth could be accurately represented on screen.

I don't think the land based combat portion of the engine could handle desert warfare. And land supply would have to be revamped entirely.

Oddly enough, with all the new fixes in sub warfare, ASW and air search, we're actually closer to being able to simulate the North Atlantic and Murmansk.

The Med was floated as an idea a long while back and scrapped shortly after. It's very unlikely that there'll be a Med game, and certainly/hopefully not with the WitP engine, in any reasonable time frame...

Only if someone can provide a MAJOR upgrade to the ground combat "engine".

I think this is a MAJOR understatement. IMHO a MED game would be mainly a land warfare thing; naval operations in the MTO were far more subordinate to land warfare than in the PTO. Almost all major actions were in connection with supply convoys (getting supplies to Malta/to the Afrika Korps respectively prevent that from happening, which was interconnected, or getting British forces out of Greece/Crete/reinforcing the airborne invasion of Crete, amphibious landings in French North Africa, Sicily, Italy, southern France. I think the only purely naval actions in the MTO were Taranto and Cape Matapan (I might be wrong about the latter). So land warfare would have to be much more detailed and better modelled than in WitP.

Besides, how would the current A2A model correctly simulate Hans-Joachim Marseille, who managed to run up 150 "kills" in about a year, usually under conditions of distinctive numerical inferiority? [:D]

As much as I love detail....i shudder at the thought of a game covering all of WWII at this detail level. As it stands right now, PBEM games can take longer than the actual conflicts themselves lasted. (and BTR (Bombing the Reich) is even worse than WitP!)

Actually it was logistics that were critical in Africa, hence the air/sea aspect would be most critical though not in the way people are used too in UV. For Allied, there's the dual mission of keeping Malta supplied coupled with interdiction of Axis convoy lines while for the Axis, the reverse....trying to keep the lifeline to North Africa open while possibly blockading Malta. The British success in interdicting the Italian convoys (mainly small ones for the most part) was critical in hindering Rommel's efforts.

A med game would sure be better than UV2, I'm getting a little burned out on the pacfic.[>:]

The very idea of a global game at this scale is INSANE. Using the WitP engine for it would be INSANE cubed...

I had hoped for the UV med game myself. Disapointing but not unexpected.

JG 26 was an interesting read. The description of the fighting over Malta was....interesting.

I'd like to pick up Shores work on the region.

supplying Malta....no problem...i'll just build Gilbratar up to level two airfield, then fly in C-47s loaded with 6in CD guns, and Matilda Tanks. If need be i could also transport an entire Inf Div, with all its equipment and supplies...[:D]

Meanwhile the Italians and Germans would pound Gibraltar into the sea.

...And the Italian Fleet will sail down three times a week and "bombard" the island to powder.....
