Exactly how does the losses replacement system work?

This is something that makes me wonder, because infantry/arty etc. losses seem to be replaced correctly...However, tank losses don't, and it often seems as I've something like 2 tanks per Panzer battalion(whether divisional or sub-unit) at good times, with tens of thousands tanks in the force pool at any given time.
This is even more bizarre as the O.K.W/O.K.H replacement levels are set at 100 and infantry losses do get replaced when I transfer combat-weary divisions, be they regular or Panzer(Grenadier), there...But the Panzer levels remain at appalling 2/battalion... Even stranger yet, newly created sub-units seem to be stuck at 4/battalion, be it StuGs or Tigers. Is this really *meant* to be so? BTW, I'm using Wirhack/w 3.101.

This is (probably) a bug with an older WIRHACK version that comes from enabling the "block StuGs in Pz Bn" option. This blocked all reinforcement of Pz battallions. See the "To the death, aka WIRHACK 2.1" thread, and get the latest version.

Ah, yes, you're absolutely correct - a quick experiment with disabling the option saw my tank units next turn with far higher strengths - and incidentally an experience drop from 90 percent average to 40 percent average.
Thankee.

This was fixed in WIRHACK v2.11.

What about Tigers- I have many ready to go but cannot place them into Panzer divisions- it wont allow me to 'change' tanks.
Is there a reason?
Thanks

The reason, alas, is that the game won't let us.
Tigers are sent to the independent battalions, not Pz Div Btns. The game reserves Panther and Mk-IV tanks for the Pz Divisions.
You'll also get a hurd of Stugs if you don't use the option in WirHack 2.11 to suppress Stugs in Pz battalions.
I'm not sure I'd want it to do this anyway, as it will inevitably put TIgers in a division I never wanted good tanks to go to.

Muzrub - those cute kittens should have a home!
If you're playing against the AI, then there's a number of things you can do. For example, you could simply use EDITWIR and manually change the tank component of any PzBn you want to Tigers. If you do not want to cheat, then manually reduce the Tiger Pool by the same amount (and increase the pool of the exchanged tank type). Against the AI, this is not cheating in my mind. If the Germans had had hundreds of surplus Tigers, they would have put them to use somewhere.
You could also set an earlier arrival date to the 500-series PzBns. They and the SS 101-103rd are the Tiger units. If you set the initial number of tanks to 0, then that would not be cheating either.
Another way, if you play with Computer factory control is to set Tiger as replacement for some obsolete tank type - for example the Pz-IIIm. This will put Tigers in Pz-IIIm battallions while there are more than 100 or so in the pool.
And finally, you can change the Tank type of the Tiger/Königstiger to Medium, rather than Heavy. This will allow you complete freedom to replace any tank with Tigers. In itself, it might not be cheating (always assuming you´re playing the AI) but if that leads you to produce vastly more Tigers than the Germans could, then it might become a bit "cheaty". But then again, against the AI - who cares? Have fun!

Thanks mate.
Is invading a country and murdering its citizens really a hanging offence?
I thought maybe a $200 fine and a suspended sentence would be enough.

They are not really roads... they are railroad tracks without rails (which will be delivered next year, according to the 5 year plan for building up the infradstructure from crappy to worse)
