Movies You Can Watch Repeatedly

"Band of Brothers" is an obvious first choice, but for some reason, I keep revisiting "We Were Soldiers". It is such a tribute to American fighting men, and it somehow transcends Vietnam and plugs into something deeper.
Now, Mel Gibson isn't a perfect man --none of us are -- but I was really impressed by the way he captured the essence of Lt Col Hal Moore. Maybe that's why I watch it over and over -- one man's leadership inspired his men to go beyond themselves and do what had to be done. It sounds deceptively simple, but men can do extraordinary things when following the example of an extraordinary leader. For me, it's just inspiring.

Ironically Band of Brothers has been on all week on the History Channel and I find myself watching the early version AND the late version again. Both are great movies though. While one "We Were Soldiers" appears to focus on just one man, Band of Brothers focuses on a whole company for the entire war. It's hard not to watch it over an over if you are any type of military history buff. One thing about BoB if anyone thinks war is FUN an EXCITING all they have to do is watch this thru and find out just how much it is HELL.

My favorite has to be "The Last of the Mohicans"
I've watched that movie many, many times... and played the Sound Track hundreds of times. On road trips through the mountains I would have it endlessly repeating.
If there is a "runner up" it would have to be "Gettysburg". I've enjoyed that movie at least a dozen times and also played the soundtrack CD many times. This was one soundtrack that even my sons enjoyed - along with the movie. My kids at school enjoy both of these. The 8th grade is going to watch "Gettysburg" beginning next week, while the 7th grade will get Last of the Mohicans when we hit the French and Indian War sometime next month.

Classics can be watched an unlimited amount of times.
I will pass on mentioning the cliche war films (hell you already know what is good and what sucks).
Here are some of my not so obvious favs.
Sound of Music
Doctor Zhivago
Lawrence of Arabia
Shogun
Shaka Zulu (the 5.5 hour long one)
Anything James Bond
Anything with Sean Connery Clint Eastwood, John Wayne, Charlton Heston and Robin Williams.
Lord of the Rings (the deluxe variety)

I was trying to stick to war titles, but I agree with Shaka Zulu (have watched it about five times) and, of course, the whole LOTR trilogy (extended).
The others? Well, enjoyed them, but once every 10 years is enough for me [:D]
