Arcade Problem

Hey,
I bought the game yesterday and playing with a Gamepad I have been noticing a major problem that seems unrelated to the graphics (as that is the only test I have found).
Here's an example:
Playing indoors, first and goal on the 1. I try a running play, hand it off. My running back runs in place despite my best attempts and is tackled for a three yard loss - he would have had an easy touchdown, but he did not move.
Second and goal on the 4. I try another running play, the running back again runs in place, tackled for a five yard loss.
Same thing on third down.
This wasn't unique to the set of downs, it was just really, really painful to play through - is there any way around the running in place problem? It has happened with the QB as well, and happens even when there are no players around him.
This is by far the biggest problem I've had so far, otherwise everything seems ok and plays well. I'd like to construct a few stadiums of my own though, haven't figured that out yet.
