WW2 Equivalent

Post by leethompson »

Hi Everyone
Love the game - not very good at it mind you!!!
Ok now to the real question - is there a ww2 mod for this game engine
- or could anyone advise of a similar game that has the tactical level similar to this game.
Any advice would be appreciated
Regards
Lee

Closest thing to it I think would be Command Ops 2

You can try it out free from Lock 'n Load Publishing - game engine and I think 3 sample scenarios are free, scenario packs for Market Garden, Bulge, Cauldron, Greece will cost you.

At some point in the future we will be looking at adding WW2 to our list.

What are the key differences from WW2 to 1985? It may be doable or at least something close using a mod.

Tanks were slower, shot slower(?), smaller guns, less armor, less penetration, lower probability to hit
Infantry AT capabilities were pretty bad especially early war
Radios were around although some early war tanks had none.
Response times were probably slower but maybe not for late war armies?
Basic artillery and anti-tank guns, mostly towed
Fewer trucks maybe so supply is slower
In some regions, the road network was pretty bad
Special AP ammo in limited quantities

So Victory Game's Panzer command uses the same 500m scale map I believe and company size units.

All of them seem doable just by reading what is capable mod wise looking at the spreadsheets.

The game engine is really made to handle Cold War situations and scale. While you can make a WW2 or any other time frame for that matter, a number of items under the hood are geared for a more modern set of capabilities. Scale is a bigger issue. We have had team discussions on the subject and would look at a reduced hex size to better map to the shorter ranges and more infantry centric warfare.

Understood. More of an academic exercise for me and way down the road anyway. I have a LOT of catching up to do!
