Windows 7

Post by jimpyle »

A friend has an old PC running Windows 7. I checked up in Tech Support above and Jason said he wasn't sure if CSVN would run on Win 7 or not so I thought I post here to see if anyone has tried it yet. I've told my friend how much fun it is so he's really hoping it'll work for him.

Will it work? [:)]

Hi @jimpyle! The thing is that W7 is not supported by Microsoft anymore, and we on our test systems do not have any W7 systems, anymore.

Vietnam game is compiled with the latest and greatest Microsoft Visual Studio has to offer, I would assume the game should work there, but can't guarantee it, unfortunately.

Anyone with W7 with the game installed out there for comments?

THere's glitch in the current Manual where it states W7 as Minimum as well, that is not correct. To be fixed for 1.01.

Matrix Games Store has the correct settings defined as per how quoted above.

The game runs fine for me under Windows 7 so far. Haven’t noticed any differences between Windows 10 and Windows 7 on gameplay.

I was having trouble in win 10, very slow jerky etc., ran a compatibility test ( Thx Berto!)using win 7 and it improved dramatically.

I run under Win 7, as admin., turned off 'prompt for scenario' under options, ( Thx Jason!) and it improved even more.

Hmm. I wonder if those tweaks would have fixed game operation on that wonky WIN10 laptop I spoke of. Too late, though, as I remade it as a Linux machine! [:)]

[:)] This is priceless information! Thank you Jimpyle because I was waiting to know more about this, not being able to change computer for some time... Seven days of "frustration" since the release of CSVN so expected, it's not great' thing in the current context! Thanks to you, I will soon take the plunge (early February) and contribute a little bit to the deserved success of Jason Petho's team and the CS Legion.

Hi Crossraoads!

My apologies for replying to You so late. I'm fortunate to still have my parents, but they're well over three-quarters
of a century, which limits our availability a little; those of my sister like mine. Your very nice email touched me a lot,
and yes: I remember perfectly our exchanges on the forum dedicated to <Tigers on the Hunt>, of which I'm far from having
exhausted all the scenarios. The big culprit: "His Majesty Rico, 21st of the name!"

I must admit that the Campaign Series are THE game I've been most faithful to since the "prehistoric times" of <Battleground
Ardennes> then the great sequel published by Talonsoft+Empire (East Front, West Front, Rising Sun + Divided Ground) including
the Vietnam mod published on <The Wargamer> site during the '90s!

I don't want to forget the <John Tiller's [R.I.P., sir John] Campaign Series> version from Matrix Games, nor the radical renewal
inaugurated by Jason Petho and the CS Legion team with <CS Middle East>! There too, I'm far from having exhausted all the scenarios
and campaigns!

Passionate about the history of the Second World War and its aftermath, I also admit to having remained faithful to <Steel Panthers>
(SSI, then SPWAW:GE by Matrix Games & WinSPWW2 + WinSPMBT by Shrapnel Games) as well as to the three <Combat Mission> games
from their very beginning (Thanks to CDV-Battlefront.com & GoG.com).

To this I add a regular practice of <Strategic Command> since the first version and You will understand that in addition to reading,
music listening, movies, TV series, chatting on the Internet and ... family life I haven't time to get bored as an happy but retired
history & geography teacher!

Best Regards from France,
