RE: Extreme Challenge Demonstration Game
The same holds true for all forces. But going with a historical core means your not using "Tiger IIs" to spearhead your US armored company rather than M4 "Jumbo" Shermans. Of course, using "Tigers" should mean that the AI would purchase much more expensive and more numberous forces as well. Ever face down three companies of "Tigers"? Ad infinitum.
Fighting with 2750 points will not give the AI any more proportional forces than using 5500 points would. It will mean that your turns aren't going to take 3 days to complete. I played one generated battle with 11,000 points. Had a bunch of weird errors, and took forever and a day to move 100m even. I think I was proving something or another, but I forget.
Just curious, what argument is there to the "Tiger" armor? IIRC, it was 80mm (3 inches) sides and rear, and 200mm (8 inches) front. "Tiger II" Was more, but due to a reduction in materials thatnks to the defections of allied states and loss of territory, lacked molybedum or some such weird stuff, and the steel was of lower quality than that of the "Tiger I". I've read a couple of things here and there indicating that the "Tiger II's" armor tended to crack in hits that would only dent a "Tiger I". Of course, reading "Tigers in the Mud" showed that it was an easy tank to drive, and caused me to rethink my views on it.

Note this was in reply to Gunny's earlier post, on the AI buying proportionally more as your force's value went up. I had no idea there would be a few posts to follow before mine was done.

RE: Extreme Challenge Demonstration Game
Notice the middle left of the map where my forces are tryin to exit too large a file give me a sec to reduce it
RE: Extreme Challenge Demonstration Game
Size of forces vs battlefield: I think a little common sense should come into play -- the game maximises at a battalion command (reinforced).
The problem is, I think some of you guys wanna command regiments -- the game is NOT designed for games that big.
Jesus, I have plenty to handle with my Marine BLT or German Kampfgruppe --why in the heck would you want, or need more?
The max battlefield has a frontage of 4000 yards -- that's nearly three miles. In most long campaigns, the frontage is from 2000-3000 yards -- that's more like it, but it still doesn't allow for a standard formation of two up and one back on the defense. Everyone is in the front line.
On the offense, well, that's a different story.

RE: Extreme Challenge Demonstration Game
I think I took casualties in excess of total DIVISION numbers, Gunny. [X(] And I very rarely have less than 1500 points left for my long cores. This was a special occasion, one I'm not likely to repeat. IIRC, it was a response to TBT's insistance upon massed calvary and infantry charges at fortified and entrenched positions, after a heavy artillery barrage. The weird errors, such as randomly disappearing/reappearing units, loss of a chunk when I saved and reloaded later (AI forces had no problems, but it was something like 4000 points), and a couple of crashes during the barragges left me feeling that I need to bash my head with a sledgehammer before dealing with a force that large. It did prove my point, too bad the UOSU didn't work back then with this computer. It does now, when I remember to load it. Which is rare enough.
The one thing it did do is get me experimenting with calvary units in my core, which ended with a GE long campaign with 3 squadrons of calvary, and 3 companies of light tanks, one that I've already mentioned once.

NOw VA don't you think this can actually be called a delay??
RE: Extreme Challenge Demonstration Game
Riun, I would have been wishing for a good air strike at those heavily concentrated forces right then! I shudder to think of the casualties...

RE: Extreme Challenge Demonstration Game
Looked like they had you outmatched in numbers, and out classed in quality. I've never even fought a battle with a Finn involved (no disrespect meant to our resident Finn on the board either), so I had no idea they were that good. Of course, I now have to fight a battle or two with them.
I think the errors were just due to the massive size of my force. 10k+ is a lot to deal with, when it's relatively low quality, low cost infantry and calvary, with heavy offboard artillery too boot. I've never had an error outside of those while Trillian runs, and that's nothing to hard to deal with. One click, and it's fixed.
