This is incorrect. Air units that are forced into into rest by the engine, during the player turn, will return to previously assigned missions. This happens during the next ABP, if the air units readiness is high enough. This isn't just an issue of convenience. If the turn ends early, you can find all your air units in "rest" for the duration of the enemy player turn. That means spending the enemy turn without air support, even if you have air supremacy. It's similar to the issue that wishlist item 7.12.2 tries to address.
