And so to the land attacks.

First up its Smolensk. The odds are 3:1 no modifiers on the Assault Table....

...6. We are back to 6's and that is not a great result. The Soviets lose an infantry army but all units are disorganised.

To Rostov, and the odds are 2:1 no modifiers on the Assault Table.....

.....that's better, a 9. Although the Germans are disorganised, the Soviets lose an ART and both Vatutin and the 3rd Mechanised Army are Shattered (no conversion). Most important of all, Rostov falls to the Germans....

And so finally to Manila. The odds are 5:1 no modifiers on the Assault Table....but Fractional odds make that 7:1...

...oh no its a 2. Now that was lucky, there is a Shattered result so Manila does fall despite the rubbish throw. MacArthur is Shattered and I convert to retreat as I do not believe he can retreat anywhere...

..and that is right. MacArthur is destroyed along with his Filippino army. The Japanese are on a roll!

The loss of Manila is a real blow. The Americans now need to decide what they are going to do with their Armour units they had transported to the Bismarck Sea specifically for reinforcing the Philippines. In the meantime they try an attack against three Japanese Submarines in Truk - but no action results.....

The turn quickly ends with little more excitement. Its going to be really difficult for the Allies here. I have not built enough TRS, I don't have much of a plan - and now, as if that is not enough, the weather roll is a 9. Fine everywhere except the Arctic. The Germans used their Offensive Chit too early.....

Right, the change in the weather suddenly makes the Italian theatre more interesting - and concerning for the Axis as an invasion is possible. However the Axis know that the CW AMPH - of which they still only have two [8|] - have moved this turn so they do not need to panic yet.

Just one ground strike this impulse - against Sevastopol. The Do-217 gets one of the two Cavalry Corps defenders...

The attacks this impulse are as follows:

1. Amphibious invasion of Tarakan (this seemed to just happen.....??)
2. Sevastopol
3. An attack against a hex east of Kweiyang
4. Against a Partisan in Haiphong
5. A Communist unit west of Nanking

In Sevastopol two ships of the Black Sea Fleet provide naval gunfire support, while Rommel seeks to provide HQ Support.

Bomber aircraft are a factor east of Kweiyang and Sevastopol only, but there are no defensive fighters to bring them to battle.

The first attack is against the Communist 8th RTE Army. The odds are 3:1 no modifiers on the Blitz table....

..a 3 is thrown. The Chinese unit is lost at a cost of one Japanese Engineer.

Next its a potentially ill-advised attack against a Chinese Partisan in Haiphong. The odds are only 3:1 no modifiers on the Assault Table....

...disaster... a 4. Both Japanese are destroyed in killing the Partisan. Dear oh dear....

Further north the presence of an AT also gives the Chinese the choice of table. Its a 3:2 no modifiers on the Assault Table....

....9. The Chinese lose two units and the Japanese lose an infantry division.

And so to Sevastopol. The odds are 3:1 +1 on the Assault Table......Fractional Odds make it 4:1

....5(6) the hot dice have ended for the Germans of late! But its just enough as they get a Shattered result on the surviving Soviet unit. I convert to retreat on the basis there is nowhere for the surviving unit to go. All Germans are disorganised.

The turn heads back to the Allies.

Assuming there will be no more impulses - or not enough to make a difference - the Soviets move units out of cities so they can reinforce where required next turn.

There is little else for the Allies to do. The CW march units from India to Burma and the British/Canadian force in Libya continues its march west to Tripoli.

There really isn't that long left so its time to get things moving - and if it all goes wrong well at least I've tried...

The array of Italian and German NAV looks formidable but I cannot win without attacking.
