So a transport plane with a capacity of more than 7500 can only carry 2 aviation support devices? That's would take a lot of turns to fully transport even one airborne battalion, right?

How many transport aircraft are in a unit? It is not unusual for it to take more than one turn unless more air transport units are being used.
Seek peace but keep your gun handy.

When a transport air group is set to troop transport, does it also carry supplies along with the troops?

It carries the supplies the unit started with before loading, but not extra supply. You need to assign a squadron to supply transport to get all supply. And the supply numbers you get are very low - 1 or 2 supply per aircraft for the types available at game start. Note that Patrol Aircraft can also carry supply and small devices. In a real pinch some players use bombers to carry supply if the bombers are too weak defensively to attack targets.

Ok, so airborne ops are basically hamstrung?

Airborne troops were never intended to be in continuous battle. The idea is to take an important objective like a bridge behind enemy lines but be close enough to the front line for their own forces to push through and relieve them. Alternately, if the paratroops have captured a useable airfield, the transports could bring in regular troops and airlift out the paratroops (unfortunately you cannot do this on the same turn). The supply path issue remains but the regular troops are more expendable than paratroops.

Always keep in mind what problems the enemy will have when you do a paradrop. It may be very hard for the enemy to reach that location quickly unless they have their own paratroops and transports in the area.
