It would be me or the kid at that point. I would not last long as a teacher at any level in a public school, as I would not put up with crap from the brats or their loser parents.
I'd have been fired as well. Although that goes for pretty much every civvy job going [:D]
One of the reasons our K-12 education system fails repeatedly and predictably is a belief in rules rather than in the use of good judgment. What are we teaching when we try to take thoughtful analysis and good judgment out of the equation?
When these kids reach the university level we find they want idiot-proof rules requiring no thought and if they are ever going to function in a world requiring complex judgment they must unlearn this tendency before they can learn what they need to know. In many fields the "knowledge" we teach them will be obsolete within a few years and it is only developing the ability to make sound judgments from available knowledge (while recognizing that this knowledge is constantly changing) that will serve them well.

I hear ya.
I'd also sue the **** out of the district for suspending me for no cause. So let me get this straight, you can suspend me because of a frivolous report from some punk *** kid in my class? Absurd rubbish. Change your f****** policies, school district. [:@]

It carries on into the business world where the overwhelming trend in HR is 'check boxes' for degrees, certifications, etc. regardless of the individuals skills. I recall an HR rep telling me that a job applicant 'had unix' because they had completed a course in unix (the job was for a unix systems manager at a level requiring advanced knowledge to tune for performance and so on).
All that brain-dead rules succeed in giving us is brain-dead people. "Got stupid?"
One of the five secretaries in my department is currently on maternity leave and set to "go" in two weeks. Today, she came by to visit; can we guess how quickly I found an excuse to be somewhere away from the office, once those five women got together?[X(]
Make no mistake, I like babies. But five women chattering on and on and on and on and on and on about pregnancy and childbirth? No.
T, why don't you just try to hug one of them, then you won't ever have to worry about being in the middle of a chattering session?
This guy named Joe was going into the desert for a week and he needed a camel for the trip. Joe was a stranger to the desert but was able to locate a rent-a-camel office. Joe tells the rent-a-camel man that he will be making a long trip through the desert for one week. The rent-a-camel man says even his best camel can only go 4 days without water. After some discussion, the rent-a-camel man says "I don't like to suggest this, but you know a good camel can go an extra 3 days or more if he is bricked." Joe agrees to take the best camel. As he leaves the rent-a-camel office, the rent-a-camel man reminds Joe to brick the camel. Not wanting to display his ignorance, Joe doesn't ask about the procedure for bricking the camel. Well Joe knows that it is a long difficult trip for the camel and lets it eat ant drink its fill. He encourages the camel to take on all the water it can by offering it often. Sure enough 4 days into the trip the camel drops dead. Poor Joe barely makes it back to town alive and can't wait to confront the rent-a-camel man. "You rented me a poor camel", Joe says, "It died after only 4 days in the desert, and I almost perished with it." The puzzled rent-a-camel man looks up at Joe and says, "He was my best camel. Did you brick him?" Mad as hell, Joe replies, "Brick him, what the hell do you mean." The rent-a-camel man explains that when the camel bends over to take water, you take two bricks and slam his gonads, as the camel gasps with his head in the water he takes on another 3 to 4 day supply of water. "My GOD", Joe says," Doesn't that hurt?" The rent-a-camel man answers, "No! Just keep your thumbs out of the way when you slam the bricks together

Just par for the course, Dude. Golly, just watch anything on TV and you're inundated with "Have you been annoyed? Then call our attorneys and get Money!".
As a society, we're not only in the pooper, but somebody already pulled the flush cord. So don't get mad, it only raises your blood pressure to no purpose. There's nothing you can do no matter how you feel about it. It's a simple matter of mathematics. The social inertia of 290 million cretins, following the latest judas goat demagogue (who just promises crap to get the power so he/she can get that Beemer and a house on the beach) vs, what? few million thoughtful folks? Hah!
Sanity ain't gonna happen in a Democracy Mouse. The Greeks knew that 3000 years ago. Critias the Elder (or maybe the Younger, I forget) described what is happening now, book, chapter and verse. There is absolutely nothing that can be done except to bunker down and let nature take it's course.
Thanks, that makes my outlook on life much brighter, especially considering how highly I value your opinion on things. [:(]

I'm sure every generation says this, but it seems to me that the factor of stupidity in the world is increasing exponentially. I dont consider myself very old, but when I was in school, if I had pulled a stunt like that the school authorities would have told the nice officers to go away and not come back until someone old enough to have a drivers license calls them, called up my parents to have a VERY stern talk about disruptive behavior and when I got home I would have gotten as @ss whooping that would have caused me to eat dinner standing up for a few days. And thats if I was in elementary or JH (what the hell do those kids need cell phones for anyway?). If it was HS, I'm pretty sure my dad would have broken a window with my head just for the embarrassment of it all.
OK, I need to return this rented soapbox. [8|]

I'll bet that there is absolutely no official policy on this. This smells like preemptive "OMG, what if they sue us" crap.

Lets be fair. Most HR personnel I've met have not been the brightest bulbs. Most of them were certainly not qualified to judge me on my merits for the position in question. All they actually knew how to do was check boxes and pretend to comply with the bazzilion idiotic rules they had foisted on them.
