I wish. Just been handed an infrastructure design drawn up by consultants that sucks. Under-specced servers, no versioning, no sizing. Told bt ny IT deirector to take a "best guess". Oh, and have it priced by Wednesday.

Retail | Fort Myers, FL, USA

(I work in an electronics store that sells power adapters as replacements for broken ones. The customer has a complaint, because the replacement plug doesn’t go in all the way. It sticks out about 2 millimeters.)

Customer: “What’ll I do if my grandson sticks his finger on it?”

Me: “Well, sir, first of all, I would hope you’d keep something like this out of his reach. Second, the space is far too small for his finger to touch it. Third, the plug only has 3 volts of electricity coming out. It won’t hurt you.”

Customer: “Prove it!”

(I proceed to plug in the adapter, and hold the tip of it between my fingers.)

Me: “See? No shock.”

Customer: “I still don’t believe you!”

Me: “Okay, sir. Here.”

(I hand the customer a 9-volt battery.)

Me: “Take this, and put your finger on top of those two bumps.”

Customer: “Fine! What’s the point of this?”

Me: “Well, right now, you’re touching a 9-volt battery on both poles. You have more voltage flowing through you, coming out of that battery, than I do touching this plug.”

(The customer thinks for a minute, as though trying to comprehend what I just said. His fingers are still in place on the battery. Suddenly, he shouts out in pain and throws the battery across the
room.)

Customer: *shouting* “How dare you! You just tried to kill me! I’m going to sue!”

(My manager, who has been watching from the back room via security camera the entire time, comes out.)

Manager: “Sir, if you really think you have a case, go ahead. You’ll be up against witnesses, security cameras with full audio, and basic elementary school science. There is no way a 9-volt battery can hurt you.”

(The customer leaves, looking forlorn and downtrodden.)
Lucky for you, tonight it's just me

Thanks for all the info on DA2. With the patch it seems in buyable form.

It's weird that so many people have reported problems with DA2. I presume it's the disk version, because aside from a single crash, my Steam version of the game has behaved flawlessly.

It appears that they had similar problems with Mass Effect 2, for the same reason. They were trying a new way to take advantage of multi-core computers and ran into issues. I do not blame Bioware at all... the specs demanded at least a Dual Core 1.8Ghz or the equivalent. I am running a single core 3.8Ghz, so I thought that I would give it a try. With the patch that was released on Friday (the game was just released Monday) I am able to play it, though obviously it would run a lot more smoothly if my system was up to spec.

EDIT: I read on BioWare's forums that AMD has designed (some of?) their multicore systems to assign each program running to a different core CPU (I assume that if you have more programs running than CPU cores, it will double or triple up) - but each program is only assigned one CPU. So some AMD multicore users were having the same problem that the single core users (who refused to pay attention to minimum specs - like me!) were experiencing when the program wanted a second core to process the saves.
fair winds,
Brad

It feels a little strange but kind of nice to not be at a hockey rink for my son's practice on a Monday night.  [:D]
