March 28th 1942

Mid-day a message starts to tick in at CiCPac HQ. This one however is longer than most messages. Could this be good news?

Off course it could not, however just how bad things have gotten nobody expected...

From: Base commander, Karachi
To: CiCPac HQ, War Ministery London
Subj: Situation

*Today heavy attacks were launched by the Japanese both on ground and in the air. The aerial combat saw the loss of 30 Japanese planes to out 88 planes.
*The small Japanese carrier fleet assaulted the merchants trying to head for the US West Coast and sank roughly 30% of the ships
*Out of desperation our bombercrews have been given orders to bomb the outskirts of the city to prevent the enemy from digging in there.
*Any ship with a gun has been ordered to fire at the outskirts of the city in an attempt to halt the Japanese attacks
*Japanese engineers were able to severly damage our fortifications during todays battle
*The Japanese force now counts more than 100.000 men, while our fighting strength is no more than 20.000.
*Total losses for the Japanese were some 3200 men to our 1000, these odds are in favour of Japan as they have more troops in the city as of today.
*Unless fighters are made available soon (and please no more Hurricanes, they are mere targets!!) Japanese aerial attacks will wear us down pretty fast as Japan sent in some 120 bombers today.
*Unless ground forces are made available very soon, the city will be lost within short time.
*Our ships will be sunk if they try to leave port due to Japanese carriers as well as landbased planes.
*We do not have enough engineers to repair the damage inflicted upon our fortifications at the rate the Japanese inflict them.
*Current situation suggest that India will be lost within 14 days...

Quite a pickle the Allies are in. Will the game continue beyond the auto-defeat?

If I get to decide this game will continue untill there are no allied bases or units left on the map, but I would not blame Roy2008 to end it with the autovictory. I'm no match for his skills at all.

Another message from Karachi arrives at CiCPac HQ, and again the news are not too good.

From: Base commander, Karachi
To: CiCPac HQ
Subj: Situation

Another air raid against our position led to devastating results to our fighters. Although we shot down 39 enemy planes, our own losses of 108 planes lost were too high. Tomorrow our fighters will not face the enemy in the air. We need to repair our fighterforce before attempting another aerial battle.
It is evident that the main problem we are facing is the enemy engineers. They simply do too much damage to our fortifications. Please send a relief force soon!

It has become clear at CiCPac HQ that the enemy holds alot of forces in two locations, India and Soerebaja. Unfortunately without longrange fighters capable of clearing the skies no allied ships can launch a counterattack. More carriers are needed badly.

Another dire day as messages starts ticking in at CiCPac HQ.

From: Base commander, Karachi
To: CiCPac HQ
Subj: Royal Navy

Japanese planes have caused severe damage to our capitol ships currently shellign the Japanese positions. The port does NOT contain any repair facilities. With enemy carriers at sea, this means that several ships will be sunk if the city falls.

From: Base commander, Soerebaja
To: CiCPac HQ
Subj: Inbound convoy

The convoy carrying badly needed supplies for our defence were sunk by Japanese surface ships as they entered the port...

The war is not going to well for the Allies in Europe either, and the British Admiralty sends a message to CiCPac HQ;

From: RN
To: CiCPac HQ
Subj: Ships needed

Due to dire situations in the battle of the Atlantic, we need to withdraw the carrier Formidable as well as two destroyers to act as escort for the carrier. We expect your full cooperation in the matter.

From: CiCPac HQ
To: RN
Subj: Needed ships

Although the need in the Pacific is great, espesially for carriers, we understand that the defence of the British home islands holds priority. The Formidable and two destroyers are bound for Plymouth.

April 1st 1942

One message enters CiCPac HQ this day, this however is good news!

From: Research department, foreign weaponry department
To: All commanders in the Pacific
Subj: Zero-fighter

After doing some research on a captured Zero, it is evident that although this fighter is agile, it does not have a very high top speed in dives. Hope this information can be put to good use!

Headline in the Washington Post

THE SITUATION IN THE PACIFIC!
NB! Not an April 1st joke!!!

April 2nd 1942

Two messages enters CiCPac HQ, as usual no good news amongst them. One message is replied to.

From: Base commander, Soerebaja
To: CiCPac HQ
Subj: Situation

Strong enemy attacks today. The Japanese forces outnumber us roughly 3:1, and our defences are being run down. Unless a major change in the situation occurs soon, we will have to surrender in a day or two...

From: Base commander, Karachi
To: CiCPac HQ
Subj: Situation

The enemy have brought in more troops. The hope of holding the city is slim, we will hold for as long as possible, but unless more combat troops arrives soon, we will be overcome. Strong enemy presence in the air as well, today more than 100 zero fighters were spotted.
In an attempt to save atleast some ships if/when the city falls, all undamaged ships have formed two convoys and will try to run the gauntlet. If this is to be done, it has to be now, as the enemy carriers have headed south to be resupplied. Please advice!

From: CiCPac HQ
To: Base commander, Karachi
Subj: Running the gauntlet

We agree that the preservation of the undamaged ships would be a great asset. Do however tell the captains of the ships to return to base if the enemy carriers take up a blocking position!

April 3rd 1942

Another disastrous day for the Allies.

From: Base commander, Soerebaja
To: CiCPac HQ
Subj: Surrender

Today I had no option but to order my soldiers to lay down their arms. The enemy broke through our defences in force. Be warned that this frees up 150.000 frontline troops for the Japanese. Suggest strengthening the defences in Australia if at all doable!

April 4th 1942

A few messages arrives at CiCPac HQ, as usual some is bad news, one point of good news does however arrive.

From: Base commander, Lahaina
To: CiCPac HQ
Subj: Reinforcements needed

The enemy has reinforced his position on the island, are our reinforcements enroute? If not I fear all will be lost in a few weeks!

From: Base commander, Karachi
To: CiCPac HQ
Subj: Fleeing merchantmen

Our transport ships have turned away as Japanese carriers are reported to have resumed positions to the west.

From: Base commander, Karachi
To: CiCPac HQ
Subj: Fleeing fleet

The fleet that tried to run the gauntlet and escape from India reports to have reached safety far to the west of the Japanese carrier force!

Only one message enters CiCPac HQ, and as usual there si no such thing as good news...

From: Base commander, Lahaina
To: CiCPac HQ
Subj: ... _ _ _ ...

Help is urgently needed, supplies are nonexistent, and the enemy is starting to do deliberate attacks. Have ordered some base forces to begin to evacuate by submarines. Suggest letting submarines carry mines from PH to Lahaina and troops back to PH.

April 6th 1942

The bad news keeps arriving at CiCPac HQ.

From: Base commander, Karachi
To: CiCPac HQ
Subj: Fleeing carrier fleet

Our carrier flotilla trying to flee from India reports that a Japanese task force have taken up blocking positions. The commander decided to gamble on that the weather forecast will hold up, as the weather should prevent any Japanese planes to fly tomorrow. This would allow for our ships to slip away. Fingers are crossed!

From: Base commander, Lahaina
To: CiCPac HQ
Subj: Help needed!!

We are still under deliberate Japanese attacks, unsure how much longer we can hold!!

April 7th 1942

Tension is high at CiCPac HQ, the next few days will be extremely important for the Allies;

-Reinforcements are now on their way to Lahaina, will they arrive in time??

-So far the task force trying to leave India has not been spotted, however the weather is gettign better, which in this case is bad. Hopefully they will manage to reach Australia relatively safe were they will refuel and head for the US West Coast. Even if British carriers are not the best there is, it is still better than nothing.

-Can Karachi hold? Unfortunately the Japanese bombers are on constant naval attack duty, this means that the British ships cannot perform bombardment missions.
-Where will the Japanese troops from Soerebaja go? 3 options - Australia, China, India. If sent to India, India will fall, same goes for China and Australia...Not a good situation! And unfortunately no combat troops will arrive soon, only base forces and HQs...

April 8th 1942

Once more things seems to have slowed down. At CiCPac HQ this does however allow people to relax as everybody knows from experience that when things slow down for a week or two, the Japanese Empire is up to something, and that something is always bad for the allies...

On the upside however it seems that the British task force has indeed managed to slip away from India, and the ships are now heading for Australia to refill their fuel before heading to San Fransisco. Things look even more grim in India however, and with no real reinforcements schedueled for another 4 weeks everyone is in doubt as to the Allies ability to hold India...

April 9th 1942

At noon two messages ticks into CiCPac HQ. Both from the South Pacific...

From: Base commander, Wyndham
To: CiCPac HQ
Subj: Enemy forces

Today enemy forces entered the town. It is still uncertain as too how many Japanese troops are present, nor what kind of units. We will do our outmost to halt the Japanese advance!

From: Base commander, Noumea
To: CiCPac HQ
Subj: Enemy shipping

We have good news and bad news for you guys at HQ.
Good news: We have located the Kido Butai!
Bad news: the Kido Butai was located at Nandi. It seems the merchant shipping our cruiser force was sent to engage was no merchant ships at all. Our cruisers have all turned back and are now heading for Noumea. The heavy cruisers Pensacola and Australia as well as the light cruisers Perth, Adelaide and Achilles all report some damage after suffering aerial attacks launched from the Japanese carriers. How many of these ships will manage to get back to safety is unknown as of today.
It is very likely that the presence of the Kido Butai is a warning that Japan has set its eyes upon Noumea. Fortunately we have recied words from the New Zealand government, and they report to allready have a division enroute to the city.

At the end of the day, the CiCPac seems to have aged 50 years...

From: Base commander, Noumea
To: CiCPac HQ
Subj: Kido Butai

As expected the Kido Butai took up chase of our damaged cruiser fleet. The cruisers, Australia and Perth are reported sunk, and chances are high that Adelaide, Pensacola and Achilles will follow tomorrow...

From: Base commander, Wyndham
To: CiCPac HQ
Subj: Enemy attacks

The enemy dislodged us from the city, we are now in full retreat. Repeat, Wyndham now in Japanese hands!!

From: Base commander, Karachi
To: CiCPac HQ
Subj: Aerial combat

Today saw Zero-fighters attack our planes bombing the enemy positions in the city. Our losses were disastrous. More than 120 planes were lost in air-to-air combat today, Japanese losses - 2 (TWO) Zero-fighters. Our planes have been grounded for tomorrow!

A slow day, something everyone at CiCPac HQ is very grateful for.

From: Base commander, Karachi
To: CiCPac HQ
Subj: Aerial attacks

Japanese bombers bombed the city today, destroying some 20 planes on the ground. In the hope that the Japanese continues to be aggressive, we have decided to launch a port attack tomorrow hoping that all Japanese fighters will be seen over Karachi.
