Absolutely not. I play scenarios all over the place where an AMP wouldn't even come into use. On some scenarios, an AMP might help. If enjoyment of this game is based on there being an AMP, you might be playing the wrong game or not playing this one the right way.
Your play style - as revealed above - is to 'Save-Scum' through mission planning to ensure that you make everything work as you desired. That is time consuming - and based on my current stage in life I don't have a lot of time for playing computer games, much less hacking the game mechanics to get the desired behavior.
Yes, you can get through some missions without an AMP - by replacing that with a lot of manual work, micro-control, and repeated saves. But if you don't have time for that manual finesse, you can't play the complex missions. Instead of conceptualizing a plan and working out details, one spends time coaxing the game to do the simplest tasks.
