To be sure - I have not tested my idea in game - I barely know how to get the troops on the plane let alone send them on an assault!
It just seemed the only way to work it out arithmetically. I know the C-47/Dakota that I flew in a couple of times could carry 20 passengers, without paratroop gear, so I would estimate 16 per plane with gear.
I have no idea if the game uses the same data so using what the game provides I could only find airlift capacity in pounds and unit load cost in tons.

Burma
Moulmein is guarded by the Yamato, Mutsu, Nagoto, Fuso and 5 DDs or so.  Koniu has the river crossings guarded between Pegu and Moulmein.  I went up river and crossed over.  I'm working my way down.   I bombed Medans oil for nothing, but I did hit Saigon.  I sank 2 PBs, MTB,ACM and left 3 PBs, and AD with H Damage and H Fires. AF and port differed mod damage, repair yard took 5 hits man power took 10.

Ambon AO
Getting troops ready.

Solomons
I lost a Sea Bee unit to some DDs.  Moving troops around.

I think there are more than two of us reading. You don't often seem to need suggestions so the peanut gallery is silent.

Two torps took out Hiyo? That is good luck! I know Junyo and Hiyo are somewhat fragile but two torps seems survivable for a ship of their size. Did you get secondary explosions?

Burma
Jap BBs have left Moulmein.  I have sent DDs and BBs to bombard the base.  CAs will go in tonite. I am also sending in sweeps and bombers for the AF tomorrow.  I am hoping to close it out tomorrow.  I sent a CL TF to bombard the hex north of Moulmen.  CLs are still sitting in that hex.  They might not be able to bombard a non base hex.  LCUs are heading for this same hex.  Japs have 120k of men and 1550 AFVs in this hex.  They prob have good forts too.  Naval bombardment would help.  Maybe I can eat all the supply up by bombarding Moulmein and bombing this hex.  2 More BBs will be in the area tomorrow and probably be operational within a week.

Ambon AO
I have sighted no warships in this hex for several days.  I am sending in some Fletchers to test the waters.

Solomons
Moving stuff around.

Kusaie
I have and will bomb this island.  Eniwetok will be hit tomorrow.  Makin is a practice range.

CVs are still undergoing upgrades.

You can bombard troops in a non-base hex, normally. Canoerebel reported some issues with coastal bombardment in that lower Burma area - some pieces of shoreline do not allow for landings nor bombardments.
I don't know how to check that other than taking a FT TF with a small unit aboard and trying to land it, or trying to bombard over at least two turns.
Does the F6 key show a red line on the coast side vs the usual blue?

BB: Hex side was blue and I cannot bombard the hex.  I have tried with 2 different TFs for 4 days.  Oh well.

Burma
I have chased all the fighters from Moulmein. My 4Es are still repairing so the navy will have to keep the AF closed.  I bombed the hex to the north of Moulmein. Couple hundred killed not to bad. Recon shows 23 units, I know that 6 are IDs and 2 are tank divisions.  I will try and bomb them some more.  I am hoping that naval bombardment of Moulmein will eat up a lot of supply meant for the forward defending troops.

Ambon AO
I went after the AF.  I lost 175 planes mostly older fighters. I shot down or destroyed 110.

Rest of the map is preparing and waiting for CVs to come out of repairs.

Burma

Troops are moving from Pegu towards Chiang Mai. Several Jap IDs and tank units in the vicinity. I am going to start pushing from the Chinese side of Chiang Mai also.

I have take Port Blair, Rangoon, and Pegu. Moulmein has 5 or so IDs plus tank units and a bunch of AA. Map below.

Bismark Sea

I have made some advances in this area. I have taken Namatami. I took this base first. I wanted to shut down Rabaul. I did this with some luck. I now have LRCAP over Rabaul from Namatami. Rabaul has over 70k worth of troops, with a bunch of AA and Engs. I have also taken Kavieng. No response from Koniu really. No KB, I did get lucky with a CAP trap that my BBs plastered the AF. I am moving the most in this area at the moment. Map below

You also don't need CVs to move along the New Guinea coastline. Jocke proved this extensively in our game, and I was trying my darndest to stop him. You have a lot of expendable small craft and small units to use and you could move several bases forward a month just using those, which would leave you CVs free for the big 'hail mary' moves to the Kuriles or Marianas that you'll need soon.

This works in the DEI as well. Perfect territory for it. If he wants to use his navy against mines, subs, PTs and LSTs then let him have em. He'll most likely lose more than he gains.

Agreed, you can lose lots of little ships and operations will still be successes. Sometimes fear of losing ships blocks the allied players. With all those little one you can go soviet style : push hard in many places and take the losses without much worry, the wall will crumble eventually. You should be angling for Mindanao pretty soon with good moves.

You guys are right. I am behind from my slow playing. I see this game going into 46. I do have a few ops going now. I hope that in the next month or so I can have around 5 or so bases captured. I am planning a hail mary op. Not ready to discuss it yet.

Obvert: Small crafts are coming soon. I need one more base to make me feel somewhat safer.

I landed 2 IDs, 2 tank units and a combat eng unit at Tavoy. Landing went good. We shot down over 300 Jap AC with no damage to my ships. My CAP was messed up some. I ordered my ships to withdraw after the first day. I did the clicks before I went to work. When I got home I forgot that I had did that and went back and screwed up my orders. So my ships stayed for another day. I am paying the price for that mistake. So far 4 CVEs lost maybe another one this turn. I also lost a DD and LST. I have a CVL and 4 or so CVEs damaged and will need a few months in the yards. I only have 4 CVEs ready for action now. Koniu has lost 700 planes or so in all. I have attacked Tavoy with my troops and its not going well.

My Engs took the brunt of the loses on the first DA. The second attack, the loses were spread out equally among the IDs. I am facing an IR plus support units with 5 forts. I have reserves, but not for sure I can get them unloaded quick enough before Koniu attacks again.

Holy Crap its the KB

Post by DOCUP »

Ambon:
I have invaded Ambon. I got lucky. I know he saw me coming for a few days. This couldn't be helped. I got lucky in that one of his subs attacked one of my subs and this made me increase my ASW. Also the KB got socked in my weather. Koniu also hit the AFs of the 2 closest bases. His SAGs are not in my nav search pattern right now. that makes me happy. I see the KB and a bunch of CVEs(?). KB has 488 fighters, 677 bombers and 17 aux. CVEs show 11 fighters. All his naval fighter and LBA still in the picture is scary. He also has the A7m2 on his carriers. Koniu was very upset over the turn. I got the message today. I am better Crash Kill Destroy.

I have damaged about 8 subs maybe sinking 3 I boats and 2 SSX's. On my way to Ambon. I have landed 2 IDs a tank unit and 2 arty units. I have another tank unit and combat engs on LSTs waiting to unload. I am facing an ID and IR with support troops and probably high forts. Not worrying about that right now.

KB showed up and got socked in by weather. It only got off one small attack and it sank my ASW CVEs (2). His LBA got thru my CAP and did a little damage nothing that bad. My fighters on my CVEs at Ambon took the burnt of the fight. They wont be able to put up much of a fight. I am pulling all ships back to Saumlaki, with the exception of my LSTs which I am hoping will unload during the night phase and make it to the closest base and have air cover to boot. I have additional troops prepped and are waiting for transports and a safe passage.

My CVs and one CVE TF will move a few hexs closer to Ambon. I will have close to 1k AC. If he comes closer I'm thinking this will be a good chance to take a shot at his CVs. I have 2 AFs withing 3 hexs to provide LBA for my CVs. I also have subs moving in on his CVs. I am betting he will withdraw his CVs.

Tavoy:
A lone Jap ID is moving down to coast to reinforce Tavoy. I got off a 3 to 1 attack this last turn. I have a tank unit and another ID 5 hexs away. They are ready to make a full speed run and drop off their troops. I have 4 CVEs, with all fighters about 5 hexs away from Tavoy providing CAP. I also have a bunch of LBA on LRCAP on the transports and the CVE TF. I'm wondering with the 3 to 1 if I should risk the ships and troops. I don't see any DLs on the TFs but do remember seeing them on the replay.

better post this before it gets lost
