RE: Op Plan Yellow - the aftermath

Post by Andy Mac »

I have withdrawn my intent to attack Chinese bases its just to much grief for what has been a fun game and I suspect even though he has said he doesnt mind it may grate on PZB over time.

I will let him train all he likes without interference from within China....

NOTE I said within China I said nothing at all about LR Superfort Raids !!!! [:D][:D][:D]

OK I Now have 180 B24J's at Marcus and have withdrawn all but 48 P51's and a small recon detachment.

I am spending the next week or so re organising the fleet for the next move.

I am at work but my mind turns to my various games Simon, Pauk and Chez all get consideration but the vexing problem is where to go next v PZB.

Time is running out and I need to re focus after the failure of Plan Yellow.

3rd USMC has been successfully pulled off the beaches I think and despite the bombing it was in reasonable shape 300 AV and about 80/99 readiness so a month or so max should see it fit for Operations.

1st USMC Div is at Jambi and I was going to use it to attack Palembang but I have changed my mind.

I am pulling to back to Singapore and I will marry it up with 3rd USMC and 2 - 3 US Army Divs plus armour and Raider Bns

1st Aus Army is advancing on Bankok and will be seen soon if he sees my advance I hope PZB will scrabble for reserves.

THAT will be my moment to strike and strike hard.

A multi hex landing on Southern or Eastern Thailand/Vietnam

A blocking force to the north of my target base and landing in force at several bases in the area.

I will at the opportune moment order 4 operational CV's from Marcus to make a speed run back to the West in order to support the invasion if this comes off it will have a number of advantages.

1. Under LBA cover and Superforts can close AF's in the area
2. P38's and P51's can assist with CAP.
3. A CVE Gp with F4U1D's can provide CAS
4. Gives me air bases in range of Formosa

If he doesnt commit in the North 1st Aus Army will advance if he doesnt commit in the South I will take Saigon or another base

I may support the landing with a massed para landing by 4 Bdes of Glider Borne and Paratroopers

Hi Nik,

As an example, I currently have 3 Zero Sentai training at a base away from the action using the normal pilot training method. These Sentai were hard hit during earlier battles and had to be rebuilt. They have been training for the last 3-4 months and only one has reached 60 experience. The other two are around 55 exp. That means they have increased their experience by about 10-12 points over 90 days. That is unacceptable IMO. I would have to remove a unit for 6-9 months to bring the experience anywhere close to the level of the enemy's. Except for using China for training, there is no acceptable alternative for the Japanese player to train pilots.

IRL, 3 months of dedicated training as allowed by WitP should greatly improve a pilot's skill, even if it was only mock combat against their squadron mates.

Hey Chez,

The training routine was calibrated to bring an untrained pilot (exp 10ish) to 50-60 exp in about 3 months time. An exp 50 pilot is pretty much a fully trained (but unbloodied) pilot. Bear in mind the IJAAF "trained" pilot pool has 55 set as it'd median value. USAAF is similar.

What I find as the allies is that most of my Bomber Sqns get really good xp levels in the late war because casualties tend to be low, my FB's get decent xp levels from barge busting and ground attacks especially Beaufighters.

P40N's and Kittyhawks get a lot of escort duties so they stay low xp because they are not great fighters.

Allied Fighter Sqns are mixed my best pilots dont stay with sqns but get withdrawn so I have few 90 ish xp pilots

Most land based fighter sqns are mid 50 - mid 60 average xp tending towards high 60's low 70s in 45.

I have a few 'elite' 75+ xp sqns - if I get time I will post a sqn list with average xp just to show allied xp levels

Just in case anyone is interested the loss of India has cost me 77 Sqns of all types of which 37 Sqns are Fighters or Fighter Bombers

Off map awaiting the recapture of Bombay or Karachi are about 8 Divisions of Infantry and 9 Armoured Regts plus base forces etc

But most of the RN ships are gone forever? What could you get in '45 if you recaptured Karachi/Bombay?

Wish they could fix the code so that those ships are treated as reinforcements NOT as new construction like they are now (delay should continue to run down to 1, then wait for Karachi to be liberated - or redirect everything to Sydney/Melbourne/Perth)

Aye its irritating that the RN forces are treated as "new" build not reinforcement - to me its a bug or just more evidence that the designers did not expect the entry points to be taken. As things stand I wont get BB's like some of the old R class ships until after they were historically condemmed not to mention all the RN carriers that are still at 1,000 day delay

Even if I retake the entry points I will never recieve the British Pacific Fleet and all the old Battleships currently in the list.

This has influenced my actions had I know I was going to get the surface ships to replace my weakness especially in CA's and BB's and more armoured carriers I would have went for India earlier. Because I knew it was a flaw I have slowed down

i think some of the problems this game has revealed (including loss of reinforcements when Bombay and Karachi fall) are inspiring more and more people to move to CHS - with the extended map having Aden.

Photo of two members of Andy's crack Doggage Commando Unit.....slated for black ops on the Penquin infested island of Iwo Jima, commanded by the Ruthless General PzB. He'd better sleep lightly, or he'll wake up and find his kneecaps removed.
