16. In the scoreboard displays, the home team should be on the bottom and the visitors on top. On the screens where they are side by side, visitors should be on the left, home on the right.
That is generally the case in the real world.
But is this really important, beyond keeping with stadium simulations? Will not you got use to it, eventually?
[/blockquote]
Yes it is important. Every game you play is that way. Every game you watch on tv is that way. It has become a standard that should be adhered to.

Will not you got use to it, eventually?
I repeated it, because I cannot understand [8|] how it does not become:
During FB Gaming I am used to it this way and during real life FB Game I am used to it this way.

I know we can create profiles and gameplans and all that, but I would like to run a semi-realistic NFL style league and creating playbooks and profiles is not something I'm good at. It would be nice if those who have done it would share what they have because I don't really want to go & do it for 31 other teams. I'm sure I'm not alone here.
My feeling is if it is something everyone is going to use... such as onside kicks, spike play, whatever... then it should be part of the game. Or someone involved with the game should create these plays, profiles, playbooks, and make them available to everyone for download. I know a couple of people have done that already and I appreciate their efforts.
As for having external utilities. I'm a big fan of keeping everything in-game. Right now I have a little problem when I alt-tab out of MF I return to a black screen when I alt-tab back to the game. I don't want to have to shut the game down to view some stats.

Profiles? From what I have read on here, for at least 6-months, there is no Profiles, in MF.
Marauders,
The gameplan should be able to take care of most of this. Creating a good situational gameplan is as important as creating plays for a playbook.
Well, I am here; however, I do not really think you are alone.

There are draft profiles in the game. This is what I was referring to.
As for alt-tabbing... as I said, when I alt-tab out of MF, I cannot return to it. It is simply a black screen at that point. I don't believe there is a way to run the game in windowed mode (Someone correct me if I'm wrong).

A good playbook should include an offensive and defensive profile, which is a gameplan. Just like in FBPro, the gameplan can make or break a CPU team trying to use the playbook. Most humans are much smarter than any AI, so the AI needs some help. If each team uses a base playbook, the profiles should be available for each team.
Note that one can create different team playing styles from just one playbook using modified profiles, but the playbook would have to be renamed for each profile. Three playbooks with three profiles each (run heavy, pass heavy, balanced) would have nine playing styles. Dropping in a few unique plays in each playbook would add an additional variable to each playbook.

Or someone involved with the game should create these plays, profiles, playbooks, and make them available to everyone for download. Onside kicks are a bit tricky, but the other plays will likely be part of the updated default playbooks.

I agree that it would be nice to have more statistics built into the game along with box scores. For most of the statistics though, a utility would be fine with me.
I don't believe there is a way to run the game in windowed mode (Someone correct me if I'm wrong).
Place an empty file named windowmode.txt in the maximum football folder. This will run the game in a window type mode. It is not a "real" window that you can minimize or move around but it serves the purpose very well and I always play the game that way.
Wasn't sure where to put this, but hopefully David looks in this area.
Yes, I look in here [:)]
Some of the things on the list you provided have already been added (like the 53 man roster, and RB being displayed as FB/HB).
Other things are more difficult and may not be included for a few versions yet.
20. There should be an option to spike the ball to stop the clock.
There should be a [DOWNBALL] command for the QB already. If it's not listed, it's simple enough for me to turn on. Keep in mind that any play that uses this logic should be flagged with 'Situation Use Only' in any play book. Otherwise, the computer could end up picking the play in an inappropriate situation.

You can set the game to run in a window mode (rather than full screen). This allows you to open up other applications and things (as well as run the game on a multi-monitor system).
edit.. I see Shaggyra already answered that one.. thanks Shaggy
"They're not dolls. They're action figures. Valuable Action figures!"
Thanks for the responses. I realize that some of the things I listed are definitely wishlist items that may or may not be added somewhere down the road and that there are more pressing issues to deal with in the near future. I appreciate you considering my suggestions and I'm looking forward to the next update.
Are you saying to place the file windowmode.txt in the main maximum football folder? If you say am empty file. Is it going to have 0 kb size?
I created a file using notepad and saved it to the main folder as windowmode.txt and it had 0 kb size. I put a couple of spaces in the file and saved it and now it had 1 kb size. I started the game with each version in the main folder and each time it ran full acreen. Is there something else that you must do to get it to run in a window or did I do something wrong making these files. If one is ok, which one?
An empty (0 kb) file is all that is required. No spaces or anything in else in it.
I put it here:
C:\Matrix Games\Maximum-Football\windowmode.txt
Works for me. Please let us know if it does not work for you.
Thanks for your response. I got it working now. Turns out that my problem was that I named the file windowsmode.txt instead of windowmode.txt. when I eliminated that S, it works fine.
I'm new to this game, and have played many of the "competition" and I LIKE this game a lot!!!
This is the first time I'm chiming in to the forum and I'd like to say "Well Done! DW! Well Done! Keep up the good work - we ALL appreciate it."
The new play utility (v.1.3.84) reminds me of a very early, circa 1992, football game for the MAC, OS 7.1 I think. I can’t remember what the name was. Very cool!

These are only suggestions / wish list items and not criticisms of the fine work that has already gone into this game.

As for the wish list:
I agree with many of Lucas’ suggestions. I’ve commented on some below, but here are a few of my suggestions.

GF1) As mentioned before: Sorting stats is high on my list, even if this were in a utility I’d be happy with that. I don’t have a problem with switching to game utilities for non-game-play functions.

GF2) I’d love to see a Stats report utility and Roster utility, or function, where I could create / export season or career stats in an HTML document then I could post them on the web easily for a league. I’d also like to see this function for all team rosters and for the free agent pool. This would help with drafts, and with setting up position depth charts, when playing a game and you need to find the 4th string DB because all the rest are tired and need a rest, you could quickly see their position, number, name, and ratings for speed, strength, etc. I’d have a print out of this on hand when I play my games vs. cpu. Or via head to head…

GF3) Printable Playbook.
This would probably come from a utility… I don’t have a problem creating/editing plays in a utility… printing a playbook, and a game plan sort function of the plays, could be helpful for head to head play, especially as your play book grows…. I’m envisioning myself with a three ring binder, plastic protective sheets, visa via marker scribblings all over as I take notes from each play…

From the Lucas suggestions:
quote:
1. Substitutions - there need to be more than just injury subs. Starters should get tired and get subbed for, rest, then return to the game.
12. More on substitutions - sometimes in blowouts I would like to take my starters out and let the backups play. I'd like a quick and easy way to put in my backup QB or RB for all formations and plays.

I think these two go together. Maybe I’m not using the substitutions in game properly, or I haven’t set up my depth charts properly, but I think there needs to be a little tweak on the substitutions too.
quote:
2. Onside kicks, squib kicks, fake punts, fake field goals all need to be added

Marauders has a post in here that I think says this would be tricky:
How about having the option to draw the intended path of the kicked ball? So if you want to kick right, or left, you draw the line in the play design that send the ball in that direction. This should be an option and should not override and AI for field goals. Using this method ( the ancient 1992 MAC football game used this) you could easily create an onside kick.

quote:
14. Keep track of stats - like top 10 rushing performances for a game/season/career, etc.

I agree. This would be great for leagues and being able to export this to HTML, see suggestion GF2 above, would be useful too.

quote: 17. In the play by play that gets displayed, it would be nice to list a player's position and number in addition to his full name. Instead of "Tackle made by Ostroski" it would be "Tackle made by #55 LB Henry Ostroski" and then recorded in the game logs.

I’d like to see the option to display or not display the Play by Play. Personally, I like the play by play, and would like to see the expanded idea with player number, position, and name. But if I’m in a hurry to play a coach vs. cpu game, I could skip most of the play by plays.
Always keep one eye on the sky - the Air Force is coming!
GF4) Movable OL and DL during formation creation. As in, place them just like you do all other players. While it is unorthodox and very unusual, and it is acceptable by the letter of the rules, the Center (C) does could also be an eligible end. i.e. The center is over the ball at snap, and he is the last player on the left side, left "uncovered" yet, if "declared" as an eligible receiver, he can be left uncovered and could (if he had hands) go out for a pass. Now with ten other players lined up to the right or behind the center imagine the sweep run you could make, or some of the trick plays that would drive defenses crazy... ALSO, you could adjust spacing of linemen for punts, etc. That ancient MAC game I mentioned above let you place all the players in the desired positions in play design, but you had to at least "cover" the center with and End. I've done this in "real life" and it works great!

I do not think the Center can be a eligiable receiver. Plus, is it possible to have a referee declare your self an eligiable receiver, if you are not lined-up in an eligiable position, before the OLmens' shifting or motioning?
From previous threads, we established, there are no listing of it in The NFL's On-Line Rule Book. So, I sent Letters to The NFL Rule Book Department, asking for the answer. One-catch (bad pone, I know) I did not include the Center in the question; because I never have seen any Center go out for a pass and thought someone had to replace missing OLmen's positions (LT and LG went to Right of The Center, thus TEs must fill LT and LG positions).
Maybe, it is that way in The NFL, but maybe in The NCAA you are right? Maybe, you would write a letter to The NCAA, to provide proof?

When I was in High School, years ago, we had a "trick play" where the Center lined up as the end, he declared himself eligible with the Ref. and all was good. We had three variations of the play and we ran it a few times to set up the final one: 1) QB Sweep or RB Sweep to strong side (away from center). 2) WR Screen on strong side. 3) Play Action to RB or Pump Fake to WR Screen then turn and pass to C on an out...
Worked well.

Yeah, that is good, we already established that in other threads. However, if he is snapping the Football, then if LT and LG move to his right, then I do not think the snapper can catch the Football.

GF5) In the Player Depth chart, I'd like the AUTO FILL button to ONLY autofill the current play, and not all plays in the playbook - Or, maybe two buttons, one to fill all plays, and one to fill just the selected/viewed play.
Always keep one eye on the sky - the Air Force is coming!
GF6) In Game Substitutions: Could we change the check box for "global substitution" to OFF, so that it defaults to a one-time change, and then if we want it to be a perm/global change we can actively select the check box? This auto global change becomes frustrating when in the next game you have to reset almost all the players/plays because you've subbed due to fatigue in the previous game. OR at the end of the game / beginning of the next game, all play depth charts revert to the "saved" depth chart and not the results of the last game.
