I probably need to be more clear about the approach. The "new" game at Wolverine will be an updated version of PureSim with a new user interface and new features. I am starting with the current PS 2007 code and moving from there. For all intents and purposes it is the next PureSim, not simply a spiritual successor. I have 100% ownership of the code, brand, everything.

Oh.

That's different.

Nevermind.

[:D]

(Actually, this is really great news Shawn. Thank you very much for the clarification.)

Hey guys -- I suppose I was correct in my asking for a new interface. I'm not really a clairvoyant. Just a lucky guesser. Anyway, I think this was needed to keep the series going and to give Baseball Mogul and OOTP a real run for their money.

BTW, Draft Day Pro Basketball is an excellent game, but I always go back to Baseball. I think it adapts best to the computer.

Why is it when I go away for a vacation with my family all of the important announcements are made?

Oh well, Shaun, I hope that this works out for you and I will follow along. (I know what a simple puppy I am).

I'm rather sick today, so my mind isn't too clear and I can't put the novel-length posts that I normally leave in a thread like this. However, allow me to get the important stuff out and said...

Shaun, congratulations. It's great to hear your huge fan-base praise you and Puresim, the Eighth Wonder Of The World, but after Matrix supporting you and believing in you so much, having yet ANOTHER renown gaming house acknowledge your skill and abilities by bringing you onto their family- there is just no question of how talented and appreciated you are. I'm happy for you and, in a non-patronizing way, proud of you.

I've been playing Puresim for several years now, as evidenced by the frequent problems my flagship association runs into and with which I pester you constantly, and I know that ten years from now, when operating systems will no longer run the original Puresim, I'm sure I'll have that one antiquated, dedicated computer running XP just for the sake of this game. Though we have already asked much and you have delivered much more, I will risk asking one more thing of you- a favor to a friend, to a loyal fan and to an ardent supporter. Please consider backwards-compatibility, so that the associations that I and others have put so much time, effort and (so honestly) emotion into, will not die.

If the new version looks nothing like the old- fine. If all the buttons are in completely different places, and with completely different labels- fine. If the game requires you to sacrifice your first born child every time you lose Game 7 of the World Series- fine. All that I ask is to please make it backwards compatible so that the histories we have established are not lost or forgotten or wasted.

Quite honestly, a lack of backwards compatibility will be a deal breaker for me. I will just keep playing the last version of Puresim instead of having to start over with a new team.

I only have one true need:  make an awesome baseball game.

If you build it, they will come.

I'm with Wrathchild and the venerable Frozen Stiffer. If it's not backwards compatible, that's going to be a deal-breaker. We've put a lot of blood, toil, tears and sweat into our associations. Don't let them die.

Time will tell, but I am already doing some things very differently, so it will be a challenge.

You can always continue your associations with PS 2007 and then start a new one or two with Draft Day Sports: Baseball.

KG and I start an association, fall in love with it, then think of some thing that we could do differently/or would like to try to improve upon and start another association. It doesn't take long and you're in love with the new association and the old one is just a memery.

For me backwards compatabilty might be an issue too... having game by game managed over 5 years of an association gets you a little attached to it.

Don,

Not to sound as if I'm slamming your methods, for I am not, but it's just not that simple for me. I see that you and KG have plenty of restarts and there's nothing wrong with that- one of the beauties of PureSim is that different people can play it in different ways.

However, the association that I'm worried about now is one that I started way back, WAY back in PureSim 2005, even before it went to Gold Edition. I'm talking back in the day when the forums were on EZ-Board. I have about 14+/- seasons invested in this association and in crafting my team's dynasty; that's 14 seasons of GBG managing. I've seen people come and go. I've made draft picks, seen them mature in the minors, hit the bigs, showcase, peak, decline, flop, retire, then get elected to the Hall of Fame. I can't just put that aside, man. I'm sorry. I just can't.

Frozen,
Thats not what I was saying. Just that for me (KG?), me any way, it wasn't a big deal. The great thing with this game is you can have it your own way.

For long-existing associations, I recommend sticking with PS. To be honest, I really don't see any reason why Shaun should make the new game adapt to carryover associations. This is NOT PS Mark II, OK?

Now, if you wanna discuss this issue further, FS, then go over and sign on to the Wolverine forums. I'm there, as I wanna be involved from the getgo.

We gotta realize this fact -- PS is basically frozen as is, unless a huge issue arises.

This creates a problem for me, too. I've restarted a Brooklyn Dodgers history, and I don't wanna wait until DDSBB is released (no time frame has been announced). So, my only option is to either continue with PS, or else chuck it all out the window and wait it out. Why in the world should I wait? This game is solid, so I'm gonna continue. Easy and sensible decision. I recommend that you do the same.

See I disagree... Shaun has basically said that it is the code for PS. The same people that are fans of PS are bound to be fans of the new game and support it. It is basic economics to try to make your fan base happy.

Please don't get me wrong... I think if this is what it takes to make the game the best it can be then we have to accept that. We just don't have to be happy about it.

I'd ask if there will be backward support for Puresim and for how long... but who am I kidding???? Put me down for a lifetime supply of DDS:Baseball.

See you on the other side Shaun.

Those who have been with PS since the early alpha days have seen what a beauty it evolved into. So I take this new venture as maybe a cousin to PS, but IMO it should not in any way try to be compatible with PS associations. PS will be there to continue those. I like the idea of Shaun being able to take his base code and improve on it without worrying if a feature works with an association from a different piece of software. I say to Shaun, go forward with all your new ideas and let the PS associations be left to play with PS.

I guess you're right. I'll just stick with PS and not have to worry about buying a new baseball game.

Sorry if I came across as saying to only stick with PS. I was saying that PS will continue to run associations like now, but then buy the new game and start new assocations. I just did not want Shaun to get mired down in trying to provide backwards compatibility.
