Operation: Hillbilly Showdown (VikingNo2 vs. Irinami)

Taking the g/f to see her family this weekend. Her birthday is the 23rd, so... lotsa' fun. We get a full Japanese dinner, a Thanksgiving dinner, and I'm sure another home-cooked meal. I'll be unable to reply until Monday, at the earliest (unless I squeeze the turn in while she's at class tomorrow... hmmmmm...).
Well, just posted a turn. Maybe I'll get yet another in by tomorrow. We've gotta' be near the last turn, aren't we? (Forgot to check.)

Finally, after chasing the **** thing all over, lobbing half the platoon's grenades at it, a scout team handily sneaks up, opens the gas tank and rolls a grenade down in there... KABOOOMMM!! There goes that **** Loyd carrier. (I should NOT have let it tie up so much of my resources for so long!) That same scout team, heady on success, moves north to watch over the road...
Right into **** near 20 Ozzies. They go bie-bie.
An Ozzie scout team in the south end was found and eradicated, but not before one of my scout teams bought it on the Hill. Further north on the hill, a command car (which has also tied up some of my men) finally takes it from a BAR through the windshield. All the crew are perforated, ventilated, and can use their privates for pencils (pun intended).
The hellhound of accurate mortar fire is tearing at my soldiers' confidence. Though these Marines could chew up and spit out the Ozzies in a toe-to-toe match, their lack of manportable mortars are what's killing them and their advance more than my iffy leadership.

Hehehehe, that wasn't a scout team, that was a BAR squad.
Now you went and pissed them off!
On The Hill, an Ozzie sniper is spotted. One lone scout, whose team has finished off other Ozzies, sneaks up The Hill. Across the forest is heard a particular exchange of rifle fire.
Cpt. Zane Grey: "Is that Duelling Banjoes? I love that song... charrrrge!!"
Cpt. Grey leads his Company from the front, assaulting a stubborn but weary Ozzie squad. The squad falls back and, only having killed one man, disperses. An nearby inspired squad pushes forward, only to engage an enemy twice their size. They hold their ground, though, pushing past the rain of mortar fire.
Hopefully the rest of the soldiers will realize that they, too, can escape those deadly tubes if they just push forward one football field more.

A few strong pushes characterize this leg of the battle...
At least, that's what we'd like to report to Division Command. In truth, despite the enemy's inferior infantry--in both men and small arms--their artillery is making the difference. We have planned, however, for this.
Too bad that plan is unravelling faster than a wool sweater dropped in a roomful of kittens.

Well I'll be. Those tin cans sure do work nice. Mubbe that's why we used 'em against the Kaiser... Nevertheless, we're (drunken) Marines! We'll carry on, we fight dirty, and we've always got a trick up our sleeves! Like retrea... er... running very fast over our own minefields so as to float just above the ground. No, that's uh... beer on our crotches. Nothing to do with those tanks back there.

Some embarrassing firefights, but my .50 (that he's been pounding with mortars for a good 3 turns I think) begins gnawing on a infantry squad and a Lewis, to moderate effect. His mortars also rain down directly in the middle of E Platoon; the very hex they were reassembling around. x.x
And bang! That's the game, MV for ANZAC. Very close game... and now, you get to see just why I should have let the ANZAC come to me. All my guns and MG's were assembled around the same area that my 3"DP guns were. XD All had a minefield behind them to discourage sneaking upon them. Fields of fire had at least 1 DP gun and 1 37mm AT gun covering each area, and usually a .50 was covering it (until I started moving the 37's and .50's up too late).
Well fought, and thanks for the lessons learned.
Password is (not surprisingly): Irinami
