I did about 4 hours of twitch streaming this morning --- had several stop in and check it out....and subsequently buy :)

Glad to advertise this great franchise!

Now showing in the #6 slot for me AND its in the featured games section at the very top of the website, the featured items tab scrolls between Distant World in the first slot, Tropico 5, Wolfenstein, and onto a bunch of other games mostly AAA titles.

Congratulations. Well deserved. I (and most of the community) always thought they should have gone Steam long long time ago. I think they will now go: * Face Palm * We should have done this ages ago.

The Steam Distant Worlds Forum is going off like a frog in a sock.

Since going to sleep last night there are almost 4 pages of new posts ... and a lot of them want help.

A lot of veterans are there but we need all hands on deck.

Quite a few of us have been saying it for a few years. But, we were told we were wrong. Just as we were told when we say reducing price on old products would provide revenue that you would otherwise NEVER get.

Well, the facts speak for themselves. Now maybe someone will wake up and realize that reducing the price on older games would be a smart move as well.

OH,.....congrats on the well earned success.

Let's not forget the part we played - bought all the iterations at full price, served to do some "beta" testing (having fun doing it). And here we hand this near perfect, polished jewel over to those nerds at Steam for half the price. They better post some good mods for us or get Workshop going :)

Watch the Home of Wargamer's Q&A session on twitch JD at least I think it was him does a pretty good job of laying out their reasoning for using steam now after so many years of avoiding it. He basically stated that now retail is on its last leg in the game industry (despite apparently 2014 being a up year for retail) due to digitization they are basically turning to steam to replace brick in mortar as the clientele is similar, they gave no indication it will change their overall direction of the company just more or less using it as another sales channel to replace one that is fading away with time.

Fully agree Buio, pretty excited about the possibly that the funds will now be available for a bigger and bolder Distant Worlds 2.

For example please give Elliot a full time AI programmer to work with him on cunning plans to knock our socks off ... [:D]

I was wondering why it didn't make the page rotator earlier.. as nearly every big release does. I thought it maybe a paid option or something to get it on there... Currently still 7th in Australia. It even beat DayZ at a stage and I was impressed at that alone! Also super happy with the DW team and community helping over at the steam forums. Everyone is very helpful and patient with all the new players...something you don't usually expect there.

Anyways, just wanted to congrats everyone involved. Lets hope to make it to the top!

edit: 6th! and we are beating DayZ again. :D

I sincerely hope that DW is high on the steam list because it has sold quite a lot. And not because nothing else sold much either.

May the banks of Matrix and Elliot soon panic due to their bank accounts causing integer overflow after massive DW profits :)
If I were to guess based on well, guesswork, I'd guess that Distant Worlds: Universe has sold just over 10,000 copies on Steam to date (this being Sunday, May 25th 2014).

That'd put the gross sales value at ~$500,000 USD and Matrix/Slitherine's share at around (or higher) ~$350,000 USD from the release on Steam.

I'm basing the guesswork on Distant Worlds: Universe having peaked this weekend (so far) at just over 1000 users playing at the same time combined with numbers that other companies have released over the years about the amount they made based on where they were on the "Top Ten" sales chart.

I hope that Matrix/Slitherine has made more. I suspect that they may have but, at least, they've done good for the release weekend for this game so far.

Where do you see how many is playing DW? I seem to only get the "top 100" list, and that requires quite a bit more than 1000 players.

At one point yesterday I went to the Steam site just to take a look and DW was sitting at #3 when I did. (Curiosity got the better of me. [:'(] ) This was against 'AAA' titles at the time.

Still not impressed by Steam myself, don't ever see myself using it, but as far as DW goes, I think it has been a good thing on the whole.
