That's why I'm trying to understand how to stop enemy supply. I had DC cut off from all rail lines and the port was blockaded with two stacks of ironclads, one near the river and one at Fort Monroe. The city had the sign that said it was blocked. But the power levels didn't drop much going from 19K down to about 18.2K over three turns. Maybe there were a dozen supply wagons in there that needed to run out first.

Which opens a new question. How many divisions or stacks does a four element supply wagon keep supplied? General supply that is. Ammo I know depends on fighting.

ArmChairGeneral determined that your Capital basically never runs out of supply. I've not checked this myself, but he always knows what he's posting.

When you click on a stack of units, to the bottom right is a menu of the unit's name and the supply percentage present. If you cursor over this icon, you get a numeric readout of supply points currently available and usage per turn.

The capital can run out of supply. It depends on how much is being brought in, produced, and used. If the harbor is blockaded, production is halved, but it is never reduced to zero. With 450k troops in the region, they will be eating up supplies like mad every turn.

Supply trains only carry 80 GS. A division will carry 4 GS per element, but use 2 per element, with the exception of sharpshooters, which carry 2 GS and use 1 GS per turn.

Out in the field a division with one supply train unit will last 4 turns, and some of the elements will start to take hits and lose cohesion already on the fourth turn.

Washington is a major city with a depot IIRC. The level of the depot and the size of the forces drawing on the depot will increase the pull the depot exerts on nearby supply sources, like other nearby depots, which means more supply will be pulled in and stored. But there is a limit, which is a function of the pull by depot and forces. Once the limit is reached the depot will not fill further, but usage and pull will fluctuate, like waves.

So it will not be unusual for especially a Union depots (the Union always has huge amounts of supply to distribute) with a huge force in the region to also have a huge amount of supply stored. But a large part of that supply will also be used each turn. Once DC is isolated, the level of GS in the depot will start to shrink, but it will take some turns before it is used up. How many turns depends on how much supply is in the depot at the point of time incoming supply is cut off, how much is produced, and how much used.

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe if you press <2> to implement the supply overlay, even in an enemy region you will get a tool-tip reporting how much supply is being pulling into and out of the region.
