... But it doesn't get past the launcher....

There is already a thread on GFN tech support where they are looking into it.

Haha i just saw this as well, for clarity i tried via the web browser to see if it made any difference. Sadly no. Nvidia needs to pull its finger out lol

I am currently playing it in a windows 10 VM, under Vmware Workstation 16 Player (which is free) running on linux, and it runs fine, a bit slow but very stable and none of the major issues people are having.
If Vmware Workstation can run it then so can GFN, dammit..... :)

Do you still end up on 1080 / 1060 cards if you upgrade your account or do you then get to play on 20xx?
Cuz the 1080 (Tesla P40) I am currently ending up on offers low fps when zooming out, on the research screen and later on in the game even when zoomed in with a couple of ships around.

edit: Tried it. Non-free accounts usually end up on better hardware. The stronger CPUs in their rigs with the 20xx card equivalents seem to be relevant for more stable fps.

How do saves work, there is no cloud saves with steam atm. Someone said GFN has a separate save but is it saved somewhere so you can continue?

GFN provides cloud save functionality and if the game itself supports Steam cloud saves, they can get synced. You can also export saves from GFN via fileshare providers e.g. wetransfer.com, but importing doesn't work without the game utilizing Steam cloud saves.

How do you do that? The only way I have known to get a save off GFN for use elsewhere is if the game has it's own cloud save or steam sync.
That would be great to export saves from GFN.

Access Steam overlay (for me it's shift+tab, don't know whether that's the default).
Here you can open a webbrowser and navigate to file sharing sites like wetransfer.com or easyupload.io .
I haven't tried logging into my dropbox account yet, but maybe you can more easily sync (export) it this way.

Thanks, that worked. I used Dropbox.
I had to jump through some hoops - the steam overlay is disabled by default in GFN, at least it is for me, my desktop settings don't seem to apply there. I have to be quick to maximise the steam window that briefly appears in the bottom left as the launcher is loading, and enable it. Then - all good!

Does anyone else get the game settings reset on every GFN session? IIRC, for the paid tier, the settings should be persistent; at least they have been in some of the other games I've played.

Yep.
Apart from that I have been finding it almost perfect. I am 30 hours into a maximum size galaxy game and it runs smooooth.... maybe one or two crashes. :)

Are you on the 3080 tier? Cuz there is no way that anyone can describe the performance of the priority paid tier (2080, cc150) as running smooth on a max size galaxy.

[1.0.2.2]
Funny thing is, not long after posting that my game speed did start to drop heavily. Almost unplayable now. I wonder what sort of rig it does run well on with max size?
I am on the normal priority paid tier and I have never noticed a slowdown on anything before.
AFAICT the issues are the same as reported elsewhere, zoom, overlays, research screen, tooltips and so forth are a massive contributor to the lag.
Guess it is getting fixed.

*Edit*
I upgraded to the highest tier to test. I am getting the device as an A10G, which I sometimes got on the lower tier, but not much can be deduced from that as I am sure they have lots of hidden on the fly optimisations and quotas that we can't see for each instance.
Also I am thinking that most of the benefits of the higher tier are related to high res and RTX stuff, which don't apply here, I game at 1080.
Performance wise I think there is an improvement, but still lots of UI lag. Definitely runs better, but still laggy at x1 speed but not good at x4. Have to test more. Generally anyone thinking of upgrading to benefit DW2 - I am not seeing much improvement.

This is a max size 2000 universe with no events at all and no victory conditions. Playing Human. Otherwise default.

*Edit Edity mcEdit*
Ok - this is definitely one of those YMMV things - all of a sudden my game started to run smooth as possible. even at 4x with almost no lag. Overlays, zooming, jumping between screens... very responsive.
Must be NVidia doing load balancing in the background.
Just not possible to consistently test this under GFN I guess.

Yes mine reset after each session at the moment. Aside from that however its running very well.
3080 tier.

Been playing on 3080 tier now and the same max-size games that were choppy before have consistently been smooth as silk. No issues at all and maybe one crash in twenty hours?
I wonder how much of this is down to NVidia just having a totally consistent system with latest drivers and optimised configurations. I can't believe that they are just throwing more and more RAM/CPU/GPU at it until it runs smooth, although maybe....
Gives me hope that soon these issues will be resolved for more people with their various windows systems and hardware.
My experience with various linux setups is that it is playable but patience is needed for those intermittent UI lockups.

Gives me hope that soon these issues will be resolved for more people with their various systems, through patches.
