Like what I see.

Are the forest hexes that fill the entire hex the same a forest hex that is only partial filled? I see 3 types of forest hexes.

It's tough to tell a "hill" from "forest", maybe make them brown. Same with Mountains. Of course Mountains have trees, just might be easy to tell the difference.

Railroads, Roads, and Dirt Roads are very difficult to distinguish.
The Union should have a slightly higher tone of blue.

Ok so following what Platoonist has added to the map, I have added state and territory names. Tried to find a font that best represents the era.

Also removed the 3rd "M" in Command.

Added the info box to right centered under SC-ACW logo.

File name is : Map.png @300dpi untagged RGB file to place in the game.

Given how this new map by Unfortunate son et al is so much better than the default map this thread should be stickied in the main forum and copied to the Scenario and Modding subforum.

If it falls off the front page at any point in the future then new players particularly when the game is released on Steam might not become aware of it.

Sweet looking map. 8-) Will be a must have mod.

Hopefully, I don't think we'll be needing one showing the Mexican federal states anytime soon.

I lived off and on in the Yucatan in the 1980's. There's some exotic state names like Quintana Roo, Chiapas, Campeche, and Tabasco. When I was down there, I heard a story that the Yucatan was independent from Mexico for about 7 years, from 1841 on.
It was a Texacan (Texan) adventurer that was behind the deal I heard. Took a couple of decades and the internet to find out this was all true. At the time I heard this story, I thought the fella I was drinking with was weaving another horse$hit into Egyptian cotton type story haha. Turned out it was true.
Note the flag 🤠

Well, Unfortunate Son and I tested his WarMap/Zoomout Map on the PBEM server.

The first test...he had his mod installed, and I didn't. The Server didn't flinch...just as if one party is using a particular map mod lets say and another one the default map.
So no problemo!

Second test I installed the file and ran a second test on the PBEM server against another opponent I am playing, and everything was good.
Zoom in on the WarMap worked without a hitch also.

It was way easy to see where my units were in relation to the States and terrain. This is going to be very helpful for folks not familiar with the geography. Heck, it may help even my fellow Americans tah.
I was joking with Unfortunate Son, who is an easterner..that we on the left coast realize that easterners couldn't point anything west of the Mississippi River. Utah? Arizona? Colorado? One of those square ones, right? lol
California may not be so hard for them...maybe. Sectionism still lives strong in the USA! 😁

Thank you for creating this map. It is remarkable how much better just adding the context of the state boarders makes this map view (although inability to do things like filter for unit types remains a real issue here to making it more than anything other than a click to that area tool).

Just do what IslandInland says below. :)

For anyone wondering how to use it you need to download it then rename it to map.png then drop it into each of the Interface folders in each of the Campaign folders of your SC:ACW install. If you have custom campaigns then you will need to go to Documents>My Games> Strategic Command American Civil War>Campaigns and then drop the map into the Interface folder.

Be sure to make up a back up copy of the default map.png so you can replace the original if you wish to.

With the help of Hubert, there's now an actual mod that can be downloaded and then selected in the advanced settings in at mods...where the map and flag mods reside.

Unfortunate Son and I tested it with a PBEM game were he had this graphic mod selected and I didn't. It worked like a charm so no custom game needed to be created.

Then I downloaded the mod and joined another existing MP game I have going and there was no problem with the PBEM++ server, which can be finicky.

Unfortunate Son posted a link and instructions on where to put the files once unzipped in the Mod section of the ACW forum. It's easy as cake as it is added to the other mods packaged in this game as an option. Just check the box and you have it in game.
