Remember you can only get a maximum of 100 VP. If you have that 100 VP, and the Win Meter is still looking sad, then you need to start denying your opponent some of his objectives - even if you don't gain control yourself, at least you'll stop him getting the points.

Check the briefings for clues to objectives that might be different for him.

Also, if you have objectives that are mostly Occupation Points rather than Completion Points, your score will gradually increase during the game. The Win Meter only takes into account your current total score, and you opponent's current completion score. It doesn't take into account Occupation Points you haven't earned yet, nor does it take into account Occupation Points the enemy has already earned.

Day 3 18:22

Time to grab some victory points - the 2nd 504th moves west towards the Nederasselt highway bridge. In spite of the fact that it has been blown and we don't "need" it getting it won't hurt and it will deny the Axis some VP......

The Coldstream Guards are ordered to move north towards Nijmegen. Ultimately, if they last that long that is, they will force the highway bridge and come to the rescue of the beleagured 3rd 508th on the north bank. Meanwhile the 505th have secured the Hatert rail bridge (we are now leaving support units behind to earn VP for secured objectives).

Whilst the Guards are under fire on the route north XXX Corps is ordered to move in the direction of Driehuizen. Two "unprotected" Axis artillery regiments were seen in the vicinity earlier and it would be nice to catch and / or suppress them for a while.

To the south east the Grenadier Guards are making good progress. Come the morning we hope to be able to purt a world of hurt into exposed Axis positions in the farmland and polder to their south east.

Nijmegen? Well, we're still there, and unbelievably still north of the river, but it's a mess.........

By the way, copious amounts of tequila allow me to post, just. It doesn't aid me in seeing out the scenario though :-).

Day 3 21:37

The Coldstream Guards arrive in Nijmegen and head for the southern end of the highway bridge but, not quite in time....... The valiant remains of the 3rd 508th have finally been forced into retreat from their position north of the highway bridge. Meanwhile the Guards Division HQ and attached supporting units move in the direction of Somerchem.

Day 4 02:21

The Coldstream Guards, still fresh after their move north to Nijmegen, make a night assault north over the highway bridge. Hopefully what defenders there are will be exhausted. Amazingly the 3rd 508th has recovered and is trying to retake its former position.

Day 4 05:02

Sunup and this is the picture south east of Grenskantoor. Too many Germans for me to go on the offense as planned though, if they want to move north towards Nijmegen they will find it extremely hard work.

Day 4 05:02

The Guards Division HQ is not making as much progress as hoped for and has failed to secure Somerchem so XXX Corps has been ordered to help. In the south the Welsh Guards have arrived and are moving east across the rivers.

Day 4 07:02

It looks like we have a situation developing here around Mook. Can the 1st 505th hold out against ~1000 men including heavy flak cannon support? I might have to move the 8th Armoured Brigade (recently arrived) to reinforce them but was hoping to deploy them against the German forces around Kranenburg in the south east of the map. In the meantime I have ordered the 3rd 505th away from its position around the Overasselt bridge in the direction of Mook.

Day 4 08:54

The 1st 505th looks to be handling itself capably around Mook and should be sufficient particularly given the hoped for arrival of the 3rd 504th (of course, they have to actually start moving towards Mook.......). This allows us to try and exploit the situation to the south east around Grenskantoor - the 8th Amroured Division is to make a north easterly sweep around the central massif and take up a blocking position in Zyfflieh. Hopefully we will be able to annihilate all of the Germans in the area. They are trying to "leek" north east as they retreat / rout. This should put a stop to that!

Day 4 10:40

Having secured the Honinghutje road bridge (the railway bridge was blown) the 1st Welsh Guards is to move directly to Nijmegen via Somerchem. German forces in the vicinity have been an irritant, hopefully to be swept aside by the men from the valleys as they advance into Nijmegen. We recently lost the Nijmegen objective so are obviously getting some "leakers". It seems only appropriate that the Welsh are tasked to deal with the leeks :-).

Day 5 05:01

The Infantry Company Ravenstein Garrison managed to hold off repeated assaults by a hugely superior force consisting of the Welsh Guards and XXX Corps HQ (plus attached) for more than twenty four hours. They have stopped the Welsh Guards moving on Nijmegen but, in spite of this, I take my hat off to them.
