Allied shock attack.
IJA losses aren’t a disaster, and 3rd Raiders disabled a Bn worth of enemy infantry.
Two thirds of the IJA 11th Division was only a few days away from joining this hex from the SW.
11th/A Div will stay where it is shown, 11th/B will continue to move into the battle hex, while 11th/C will cancel that move and head “East” instead.

Kalemyo under the 54th Div symbol has a big stack, including:
HQ Korea Army, withdrawing towards Lashio (not shown on the image)
HQ 34th Army, staying to defend.
3rd Tank Div, 15th Div, 10th Div, 14th Div and 2nd Tank Div are also in the Kalemyo hex to block the Allied move shown coming from the NW. This move has been spotted for at least a week now, so if it isn’t a fake move about 2 Brit/Indian Divs could pop out of the jungle any day now.
54th Div is moving SW from Kalemyo to help close the gap between the Arakan and Imphal Sectors, in case the Allies try to march through the jungle rough towards Magwe/Mandalay. It will split into thirds and defend three separate hexes as shown by the red arrows.

13th and 51st Div are digging in to Jungle Rough terrain, facing a stack of Kiwis by the looks of it.
Neither side has unmasked their guns to probe the defences of the other.
The monsoon is in effect so I am saving supply for when it is needed to defend.
13th Div has level 4 forts while 51st Div has level 1 forts as it has only recently arrived. 3rd Tank Div has been ordered forward to this hex from Kalemyo to try and inflict some damage if/when the Allies attack.

3rd Raiders will now withdraw towards Thailand to recover.
4th Raiders is also withdrawing with 9th Div split into thirds and moving to defend the off-road Jungle Rough hexes as shown.

Allied moves are shown with green arrows, including the assault river crossing into the battle hex.

Amazing that the Japanese internal lines of communications are intact at this stage of the game. Are you still building tankers or other oil bearing ships? If not, do you recall when was the cut-off date where you stopped building them?

Not sure what your northern defences are, but you do need to watch that backdoor!

It can't be long to wait until the Allies make a big move somewhere, so the days of hauling fuel and oil from Palembang and Borneo have to be numbered now.

The pre-war plan was only to be building Type 2 Large Tankers and the medium Std-C Tankers until the end of 1944, but the Std-A Tankers that arrive before 1945 were ordered to finish construction a few months back.
All tankers that arrive in 1945 remain halted or stopped.

RE: 24 Jul 44 report

This shows the main land combat units in the NEAF theatre, with 5th Area Army commanded by GEN Kanin.
I started coming up with this plan in early July 44, so units are almost in place now.

If the Allies make a big push in this area with 10ish US Army Divisions this won’t be enough to stop them, but it might be enough to make it costly.
There won’t be many more reinforcements to this part of the map unless I biy out more troops from Japan or bring a few more units back from Southern Army.

The pre-war plan was for the 60s IMBs to move to Luzon, but based on the more pressing need to reinforce 5th Area Army that plan was revised and they are now mostly on or near Hokkaido. There have been more signs of a big task force moving past Anchorage, heading west in the last few days.

77th Div and 2nd Guards are at Sapporo and Hakodate.
88th and 89th Divs will form at Toyohara.
81st and 86th Divs are in reserve at Ominato.

The IJA Marine Bdes are reinforcing SNLF and IJNAF garrisons in the Kuriles.

60 IMB (Southern Army) is at Kushiro.
61 IMB (14th Army) is on ships at Ominato about to start moving to Bihoro.
62 IMB (13th Army) arrives is at Fusan, so may stay in China and not be bought out. If the Allies do move towards Hokkaido it is on the “break glass in case of emergency” list.
64 IMB (32nd Army) is at Ominato awaiting ships to move to Wakkanai.
65 IMB (4th Fleet) is at Muroran, but withdraws in 301 days, so about 1 Jun 1945.
66 IMB (Eastern Army) is at Ominato, as the NEAF reserve IMB to be bought out only in an emergency.
67 IMB (4th Fleet) has 16th IMR recently arrived at Hakodate from Manila, with the other Regt to arrive in about Mar 1945
69 IMB (NEAF) arrives in 3 days at Asahikawa, but it will move to Toyohara to form 89th Div.

GEN Kawabe takes command of 14th Area Army from LGEN Kuroda.
There are only two GENs left on the Supreme War Council.
GEN Tojo is still the Prime Minister, while IRL he was forced to resign on 18 Jul 44.
GEN Nishio was the Governor of Tokyo at this point in the war.
They will take command of HQ 13th Area Army (Nagoya) and 6th Area Army (China) respectively when those HQ units arrive.

MGEN Kawaguchi, Deputy Commander 11th Division, has taken personal command of the position in this hex from the COL of the Infantry Regt.
If the Allies give this battle group a chance to dig in to the Jungle Rough there might be a chance for the 11th/C Div to join them by opening the hexside from the SE.
3rd Raiders are also moving back into this hex from the E just to flip the hexside back to red, but they will then withdraw as 54th/B and 54th/C Div are moving W to replace them.

11th Indian Div and their supporting Chindit Bde bombarded again, disabling a few squads. All squads had recovered by the time the orders phase came around, so it looks like the Allies are just wasting supply by lobbing shells into the monsoon mud.

102nd Div forms at Bataan. It’s a standard C grade Div with no bonus devices.
108th Div forms at Manila from a garrison unit and artillery regiment. It’s a B grade triangular Div so can now triple in size, with bonus Infantry Gun and Engineer units embedded.

69th IMB arrives on Hokkaido and will be flown to Toyohara to form 89th Div by 108th and 109th Sentai.

[image won't show so I will try again tomorrow]

The blue box shows what 3x 27 plane Sentai can move by air in one day with both set to 30% rest.
36x devices moved so each plane can take one of each of these devices, and the whole IMB is air-mobile.
It looks like it will take about 2 weeks to move the whole IMB by air, so it would probably be quicker to move it by ship.

5x CVs are about to start their 1 Aug 44 upgrades, but SigInt is reporting something big moving west into the Bering Sea at 168,45 which is 5 hexes NW of Dutch Harbour. I have a hunch that this is the same contact that SigInt has been spotting moving from Seattle / Prince Rupert areas over the last week or so.

To prepare a welcoming party, all CV Groups that are about to lose their CVs for a month just transferred to the IJAAF airfield at Iwaki as the weather was clear, on their way towards Hokkaido.
If the Allies do venture into the Kuriles the CV fighter units will be nearby to help greet them, along with their land based brothers flying George-5s.
The CV strike units will be kept in reserve and only used if needed.

I’ve just noticed that the oversized CV groups seem to have had a few fighters placed into reserve so that the total of ready planes = 110% of the CV capacity. On that basis, resizing to 110% only might be a better way to go instead of just under 115%.

Combined Fleet CV, BB and CA task forces have been ordered to move from Kure and Yokosuka towards Hakodate and Wakkanai.
Combined Fleet hasn’t moved in months, so all ships and air groups are in perfect condition.

Lots of radio transmissions detected off the Sumatra Coast.
There are two IJN subs recently ordered to patrol as shown, so they will be ordered to investigate with adjusted patrol lines.
Another IJN sub is currently on a defensive patrol next to the Cocos Islands, just to the SE, so they will also move to this general vicinity.
More signs that things are about to heat up.
It wouldn’t surprise me for the Allies to launch coordinated assaults on either flank of the Empire, such as Java and the Kuriles simultaneously.

An Avenger II was reported attacking I-36 off the Sumatran Coast and Sabang got hammered by B29s.
The Sabang airfield is out of action.

B-29s have a 28 hex normal range and Colombo is 26 hexes away, or Trincomalee is 24 hexes away, both with size 9 airfields.
This red line looks more like it comes from Trincomalee.

The George-5s were flying CAP at 20k’ so a bit too high.
No George pilots were lost, 2 Betty pilots were WIA and a few Jake pilots were KIA/WIA on the ground.

This is the situation just before running the 31 Jul 44 turn.

5x B29s reported lost to A2A, so 4 of 8 crashed due to battle damage.
Close to a 1:1 trade for George-5s is not too bad.

The aircraft at Medan were the evacuees from Sabang, so they’ve had two tough days in a row.
Morale in the Jake unit is 15!
Medan is 29 hexes from Trincomalee, so the Allied Chief is prepared to push his B-29s to extended range.

The plot thickens.

10x enemy task forces were spotted yesterday but only 7 today.

No Fleet CVs spotted here so they are either lurking in the background or they are about to strike somewhere else completely.
I still have a hunch that the USN are about to pop up with something in NORPAC, so Combined Fleet will remain loitering near Hokkaido.
This operation will need to be faced by land based air for now, but that might change if USN TF38/58 shows up in support of it.

There are 9x 27 Peggy Sentai at Singapore set to night low naval attack out to max extended range 17, max normal range is 14.
That’s 243 max low naval attack bombers. Pilots are nearly all 70+ in low naval which is their 3rd skill, after ground bombing and ASW, so they are also generally 60+ experience. 2-3 of the Sentai have some pilots with 68/69 low naval as they hadn’t quite finished their LowN course, but they were given a Pass Conceded and graduated early to join this battle.
Just a reminder that the IJAAF Peggys are carrying bombs, as torpedoes are reserved for use by the Navy.

Moonlight is increasing so will be close to full moon once the Allies are close to Padang, which is the current assumed target.

Only 4 days until A7M2 Sam production starts.
The 9th factory repaired overnight so it will shave 1 day off the remaining research.
The other factory is of no significance now.

P1Y2-S Frances night fighters start production today at 30/month.
