hey! save some JA territories for me[:-]

[:D]

Hmmm, I'll guess we'll have to fight for the Korea after this affair is over [:D]

Perhaps in GG WAW - post WW2 edition [:D] (hey actually that would be cool idea for a game)

These are resources we captured (in damaged state of course) in Manchuria and Korea.

Komrade Molotov, minister of the foreign affairs of the Soviet Union, is preparing fot the talks - where shall we meet? I'd suggest we forget about Yalta - we expect some heavy fighting there soon. May I suggest Seul, Tokyo, Vladivostok, or will you send some of those rusting British BBs to take Soviet delegation to USA? [:D]

Tokyo is very nice this time of year. Shall I make your reservations? [:D]

So can the Russians attack German occupied areas that are adjacent to the freed zones, or are they still prohibited at this point?

Summer 1942: Western Allies

do i need to say more?

Image

actually i will [:D]:
i didn't notice any change in the status of JA. it still possesed all it's units and conquests, and the only comparison i have to a surrender is when regions unfreeze, a pop-up displayes immediately what regions are unfrozen when the situation occurs. Maybe the surrender takes affect at the start of a new turn. ( i do know the AI file says JA surrenders to the WA when it loses area 209 (Honshu).

my apologies to bigbabyhead for a premature ejection from the game.

here is the end of Su 42 Force Pool and Production Queue. (the WA spent a lot of production this turn making up for lost ground in Research)

I guess that, as in most games, the Japanese player will get a turn to attempt to retake the necessary territory to stay in the game.

If you mean can we attack Iran, we can, theoretically. Iran is currently the only German controlled zone adjacent to unfrozen areas. I could have sent a single unit there this turn so I didn't attack, but the possibility is/was there. All the other areas adjacent to Germans are still frozen (European part of the USSR, and Trans-Caucasus). Even if German does not start Barbarossa this turn, I could attack him in Iran (but not in Europe).

The idea behind unfreezing "central" part of the USSR is obviously so that you can fight Japan, but if anything else stands in your way (like Iran or Afghanistan [:D]) you can do something about it as well.

If that's the case then it will be a bit weird, Russians and Germans fighting it out in Iran, while the on the eastern front, they are playing friendly soccer matches....[;)].. while we are on the subject, can someone explain the philosophy of having Russia frozen for so long?...was it a question of play balance?...I would think at the very least, if Russia attacked the Germans in Iran then that would trigger the war and unfreeze everything...

Fall 1942

Post by paullus99 »

Germany, Fall 1942

With the unmistakeable signs of a military buildup on the other side of the frontier, the peace-loving German peoples had no choice but to preempt our former allies & begin the liberation of the Soviet people from under the oppressive Stalinist regime.

We took out the Baltic states garrison & followed that up with an armored thrust (with substantial Luftwaffe support) against Leningrad. The city fell after a brutal fight, but our victory here convinced our Finnish allies to cross the old frontier & join our war of liberation. Finnish troops in the north captured Murmansk & have opened up a new front against the Soviet Army.

In the Center, we captured Eastern Poland, along with most of the western Ukraine in the south. We redeployed several units from the interiors to bolster our forces along the front & look forward to resuming the advance as quickly as possible.

In the Middle East, given the tenuous situation in Persia - we abandoned our positions there & drove into the Caucausus Mts, seizing & destroying the oil fields at Baku & Grozny - hopefully putting a huge dent in available Soviet resources (even if they take them back, it will cost an enormous amount of supplies to repair them, supplies that won't be available to move the huge Soviet forces arrayed against me).

We've reinforced Iraq as a fall-back position in the Middle East, and hopefully we will be able to hold for the time being. If needbe, I'll fall back further to get out of the range of Russian guns & deal with the Americans alone.

There was some ship deployments in the Med - the Americans look like they will attempt to land in Morocco again soon....but we will be ready for them. More U-boats are coming off the production lines & we plan to use them very aggressively against shipping to forestall any attempts at additional landings.

All in all, not a bad turn....we'll have to see what the allies throw at us next.

I don't think this is particulary weird. I can imagine having GE and RU fighting small peripheral wars (perhaps by proxy) in various corners of the world while avoiding The Great Conflict in Europe.

Kinda like Korea and Vietnam wars that Soviet Bloc and Western powers fought by proxies, or on the periphery of their spheres of interest, all the while avoiding fighting with full force in Europe etc.
while we are on the subject, can someone explain the philosophy of having Russia frozen for so long?...was it a question of play balance?...I would think at the very least, if Russia attacked the Germans in Iran then that would trigger the war and unfreeze everything...

I think having Russia frozen at start is basically very good decision by developers.

Now whether Russia attacking Germans would or would not "unfreeze everything" I don't know since I didn't attack (and now is already too late since GE attacked in next turn).

I will reload last turn, unfreeze Central RU, and attack in Iran just to see what happens, I'll let you know.

Indeed. I re-loaded last night's turn, attacked Manchuria, unfreezing Central Russia, and then attacked Iran with 1 unit from Turkmenistan. I lost that battle of course, but then all regions of SU unlocked, including those in Europe.

Now what do you all think about this? Should the rules be changed somehow? Personally I can't form any opinion about this so this is one of those rare moments that leave me "opinion-less" [:D]

I'm curious to know how surrender works (worked); paullus did JA still have any territories when you loaded the new turn?

if you try and load the final PBEM file for your turn (the one you email forward), whose password does it ask for JA or RU?

Oleg, that means you could have avoided having Germany be able to launch a surprise attack on you by doing that in your game. Maybe a little gaminess creeping in there.

Well, it looks like it works differently with PBEM - when I reloaded the played turn, it asked for Japan's password....so he's still in it for the time being.

We'll make a note of it in the development forum.

Perhaps, but I don't know what I'd be doing differently in Europe? I would still let him strike to see where will he go, and what he intends to do.

On the other hand! - I *did* suffer penalties for "surprise" attack, though there was no surprise at all [:D] I still can't decide. Anyway Joel is reading this thread so he can decide whether something should be done about this...

I don't think its a bad idea - this precipitation of war was only possible because Germany expanded to the borders of southern USSR. I think this would be very provocative, and should allow the USSR to "wake up and smell the coffee"
